2017-08-31 by Satellite | 32 Comments
Zachary Gontard, lead singer of Minneapolis punk band Dear Landlord, has been arrested and charged with third degree murder. Hennepin County prosecutors allege that Gontard, 37, sold fentanyl-laced heroin which resulted in the overdose and subsequent death of a 23-year-old man in St. Louis Park. Gontard, who has also played with Off With Their Heads, made his first court appearance on Wednesday. Bail was set at $50,000.

Whoa. 'Dream Homes' is a really solid album. Was actually wondering what this band was up to last time I listened to it (maybe a few months ago) :/

Don't see how that is murder and not manslaughter

same. according to google third degree murder "can be a killing that results from indifference or negligence or recklessness." but isn't that what manslaughter is? idk i'm not a legal expert.

Like I get that he isn't blameless in this but if the kid is buying heroin and od'ing on it, I don't see why it matters who the dealer was, if he hadn't sold it to him someone else would have

Fucking ridiculous that someone can get charged for murder over a decision someone else made.

Murder? Weird. Did the bloke doing the skag have the mental capacity to purchase and shoot the skag by his own volition? His actions led to his death. The bloke convicted should surely be doing time for supply, murder even manslaughter is harsh. Either way the band is probabaly shit.

Maybe the 'victim' was asleep, this bellend thought it'd be funny to inject him with skag. Even then it'd be manslaughter unless the bellend brewed up an intentional lethal dose. It'll come out at court I spose.

"The autopsy found he died from a mix of heroin and fentanyl."

This is probably a major factor in why he was charged with murder.

Also a lot of states have pushed manslaughter charges on dealers when their clients overdose in an attempt to dissuade dealers from selling opioids.

well i mean if i sold u lead powder and u died of lead poisoning i'd probably be in jail too

part of the lawsuit is that he was selling stuff he wasn't supposed to be selling in the first place, with purposes that directly lead to the dead of the dude

prosecutors often try and charge for something they know they won't get too

Aim high in hope that it'll either scare the guy into making a deal or, if it goes to court, the verdict lands closer to what they were hoping for
