Daniel Cavanagh (Anathema) solo album 2017-08-27 by BoatJones | 9 Comments | Daniel Cavanagh, lead guitarist and primary songwriter of the British alternative rock band Anathema, has announced a new solo album titled Monochrome due to be released on October 13th.
Per Cavanaugh, the record "has a late night, candlelit feeling, evoking the light of dusk as the summer sun sinks below the horizon, setting the scene for thoughts and meditations that many people will relate to."
Lead single "The Exorcist" is available for streaming below:

yessss
the best member of anathema, I could listen to this guy sing forever
| | | Very nice tune.
| | | This is some good shit right here
| | | awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you can really hear how much of anathema's sound is him from even just this song
| | | Some parts of "are you there" in the track. very nice.
| | | The song is a masterpiece. I can really imagine this album topping The Optimist.
| | | Really good track. A little disappointed it was another build to a crescendo with very little movement, same problem I have with the last few Anathema albums.
| | | This is more Anathema than Anathema.
| | | I can't wait to hear the album! Daniel is the heart & soul of Anathema, one of my very favourite bands. Saw them play in Toronto last week, second ever Toronto show (and I saw the first one 5-6 years ago, too), and they were incredible as expected but Daniel really is the glue in the performance that keeps the audience engaged, for those who have missed out.
Besides his great stories and awesomely awful dad-jokes on stage, he plays most of the guitar parts and also the lead keys in the ballads, often while the guitar is around his shoulder and can jump from instrument to instrument mid-song flawlessly. He's truly one of the most talented musicians & songwriters I've ever seen.
Even if it's middling or throwaway-quality for him, it'll still be better than 99% of most music. I'm honestly not so big on his voice, it's a little weak and off-key at times, but he sings with heart and his lyrics are top-notch, evocative and poetic, whether in gentle romantic ballads or more fast/driven tunes.
Seriously, if you like rock music, you should at least check out Anathema - start with one of A Natural Disaster, We're Here Because We're Here, or Weather Systems.
