Not at the same level of the portal of I material but still is a very good song

Noice

happy to see they are back
|
| |
Yeah man it's a fantastic track although it seems like they are veering almost into a, dare I say, tech death route?
|
| |
Personally enjoying the more atmospheric direction this track takes. The dueling violin/guitar solos are pretty excellent as well.
|
| |
This was pretty good. The cleans were a bit flat at times, which was a shame because they could have been killer. The gutturals reminded me a lot of Corpsegrinder's. The music was pretty interesting, but the violin solo was weak tbh. 3/5 track.
|
| |
"dare I say, tech death route?"
no tech death here ya silly mongoose
|
| |
Idk man i'd have to relisten
|
| |
no need
i am correct
|
| |
Nah, that's just the tasty bass that's too low in the mix fuckin with you Dede.
|
| |
Was literally just jamming Devour Me Colossus Pt. 1 (can we all take a minute to appreciate just how awesome that track is?). Excited for this.
|
| |
Song was okay. Hopefully it's a grower. Citadel kicked ass so I'm hoping Urn will too.
|
| |
I worked with a guy who lived with the drummer for a while.
Aside from that incident last year, the rest of the guys are awesome.
|
| |
First impressions: The opening section to the track had me worried, but by the time the solos and bridge section came in, this song had me in its hooks. Xeno's voice sounds mixed way better here than on citadel. I really hope they take some risks with some longer, more "growing" sections like in Pyrrhic.
|
| |
sad to say this track didnt do much for me... I find it weaker than any material off PoI or Citadel, honestly. seems like they're heading towards a simpler, more straightforward sound (i.e., becoming just another generic tech/progressive death metal band). of course, it's hard to say from just one track, but, historically, the material they have released before albums drop has been pretty indicative of the record as a whole
|
| |
"sad to say this track didnt do much for me... I find it weaker than any material off PoI or Citadel"
agreed I was like eh ok and closed it after a few minutes
|
| |
Wouldn't surprise me if the bass was low in the mix, they just brought in a session guy for it anyway so who really cares who can hear it right?
Personally I hate when the bass is neglected in the mix but that's just something that happens in metal.
|
| |
To be fair, in most metal the bassists arent exactly doing mental stuff. A lot of the time they just follow the guitars or something.
Once you start getting into the proggier metal the bass begins to do its own thing but I agree that for the most part its drowned out.

| |
Neo-prog? What the fuck?
Has this web site gone full retard in the past two weeks?
|
| |
def not on par with anything off portal of i, still good/decent tho
the bass was noticeable in previous releases of this band :[
|
| |
can someone tell me what neo prog is
|
| |
https://rateyourmusic.com/genre/Neo-Prog/45
|
| |
For the record, that was what I had when I submitted this news article, although I can get behind them being neo prog.
|
| |
"Neo-prog bands also have more Pop-oriented melodies than other forms of progressive rock"
This is not applicable to these guys.
I hear a ton of Opeth BWP and Still Life influence but no real pop other than some cleans which don't make them pop oriented. I mean no one was calling either of those Opeth albums Neo Prog. These guys even have more blasts and "techy" sections than Opeth.
The song structures and technicality are just Prog Metal to my shit ass ears.
Ah man, who gives a fuck
|
| |
oh great i'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited
|
| |
someguest the user who wrote this article is just a little retarded sometimes
song was probbably fine but dont really care for this band any more so w/e
|
| |
the bass is AUDIBLE, get some good headphones... IMO this is better than many tracks on PoI, the composition was just all over the place on that record, it wasn't cohesive most of the times, Citadel was a huge step ahead... And I also hear a LOT of Opeth's Still Life on this...
|
| |
^ Yeah I'm not sure what they're listening to this on, but it has extremely audible bass. The mix is really good.
|
| |
I wouldn't necessarily say Portal of I wasn't well composed, it just didn't have the epic massive structures Citadel had. Still my favorite album by because its so passionate though.
|
| |
brilliant... i expect nothing less from the great NeO
|
| |
stoked, last two albums are awesome
|
| |
'the bass is AUDIBLE, get some good headphones...'
It's audible, yeah, I just wish it was a bit higher in the mix. Sounds pitter-patter which is a shame because the bass player is fucking getting down on the strings.
|
| |
Production isn't as good as the previous albums, but I think that's fair given how high they set the bar with Citadel. I also found it funny how...obviously NeO the bass lines were. It's like they were subtly trying to tell us that the band isn't having any problems in the bass department.
|
| |
Seems pretty standard, I don't know.
|
| |
"It's like they were subtly trying to tell us that the band isn't having any problems in the bass department"
I would imagine not considering it's the bassist from both Cynic and Exivious. Dude is incredible.
|
| |
Portal of I is essential metal. Citadel was nearly unlistenable, for me. This needs to veer sharply toward the former.
|
| |
they're not even that different lol
|
| |
Yeah, they sounded pretty similar to me.
That was the problem I had with Citadel. Good album but way too similar to Portal to actually hold my attention as 'new' music.
|
| |
it's even a little same-y in and of itself lol, but it's still good
|
| |
Sounds like a Portal of I b side, pretty flat.
|
| |
They are string-skipping in 2017. I find their heavy sections are the biggest weakness, the melodic parts are awesome as usual but then it just breaks into blasting and string skipping like something out of a Contortionist album or s/t.
|
| |
meh
