Tye Trujillo to join Korn

2017-04-10 by DatsNotDaMetulz | 53 Comments
Tye Trujillo, the 12 year old son of Mass Mental bassist Rob Trujillo (also of Metallica and ex-Suicidal Tendencies/Infectious Grooves), has been enlisted to play for nu metallers Korn on their upcoming South American tour, due to Fieldy having to miss the dates on account of "unforeseen circumstances".

The decision by the band, whose members are all in their 40s, to recruit a 12 year old for the tour has been met with confusion by some fans, with other more established names believed to have been available. Nonetheless, the group, currently backed up by live keyboardist Davey Oberlin (after the departure of Zac Baird in 2016), will press on with this lineup until returning to the US in May.

The band's statement can be read here: http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/metallica-bassist-12-year-old-son-to-fill-in-for-fieldy-in-korn/

Man remember when Kid Rock had that lil nigga Joe C as his hypeman? This is the same shit. Korn found their Joe C, only difference is that this kid plays bass.

"Kinda insulting to Fieldy though right"

Idk man, Trujillo's kid has probably been learning bass from the first moment he could, and with such a talented father to teach him it's not that unrealistic that the kid could be a suitable replacement as much as any other bassist around. I wouldn't take it as an insult, considering Korn does have some pretty decently proficient bass work

Not necessarily.

Astral Abortis

Well, yes, necessarily. They wouldn't have someone on the tour who can't physically play the music. If they were planning that, they'd just play a bass track and not have to finance a whole new body.

Also yeah the kid can play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50iDvjMJVtk

I don't know if the kid is that talented or Korn's bass parts are so simple a 12 year old can play it.

RogueNine

I could see them taking him if he could play just well enough to get by rather than being proficient at the parts.

It's more of an opportunity for the kid than a gimmick for the band. Just because he's young doesn't mean he can't play his instrument really well, with the right tutoring it's not at all uncommon for young kids to be extremely musically talented.

Yep. I mean... there's that 10 year old kid Avery who plays through rush and shit flawlessly. And there's vids of him doing that stuff from the time he was 6
