Bleachers teams with Lorde

One man indie-pop show Bleachers (Jack Antonoff, formerly of Fun.) has released its first song since 2014's Strange Desire. "Don't Take The Money" is the lead single to Bleachers' yet to be titled sophomore release, and it features backing vocals from Lorde.

Antonoff has been working closely with her as of late, including co-producing her own forthcoming record Melodrama.

On the song itself, Antonoff explained how it actually has nothing to do with money:

"Don't Take the Money” is a phrase I say in my head all the time. It has nothing to do with actual money. It means to follow the light. Don’t ignore a gut feeling. “Don’t take the money.” I repeat it to myself when I’m trying to stay on track. Specifically in this song I’m writing about my relationship and the verse and chorus run quickly through the past and the fight leading to the euphoria of seeing the light with someone else."

Song is pretty good, not up to par with the very best of Strange Desire, but still strong.

Agreed sowing. Love this project though, I can live happily with plenty more bleachers records and not another album from fun.

I want both tbh. I get an unreasonable amount of enjoyment from Nate Ruess' vocals. But if only one project could survive, I'd pull for this.

Love it. Need to relisten to Strange Desire.

There's just something infectious about Jack's ability to write a really good pop song, with huge hooks and that you're addicted to within the opening seconds of each track. Strange Desire is a perfect record to listen to in the summer while driving with the windows down.

Agreed. "I Wanna Get Better" literally shattered my ability to listen to any other song for about 2 weeks after I heard it. Just too damn catchy.

Rollercoaster steals the cake for me, but I was in the same boat, I remember hearing I Wanna Get Better for the first time before the record dropped and I listened to almost nothing else.

I think Fun. are just on hiatus, but nothing new seems to be in the works at all.

oh I can get how that's deceptively worded...don't know if he is actually not in Fun. anymore, but what JWT said.

Really loving the 80s vibes from this, glad to see they're keeping that.

Also fun. won't get back together for quite a long time I predict.

generally I like what I've heard when he writes other people's stuff like TSwift and Lorde etc. but I can't get behind Bleachers. Sounds super basic to me or something ¯_(ツ)_/¯

He know how to write those larger than life pop-hooks. Dig it.

(That Lorde appeareance is about as visible/important as that Janelle Monae appearance on "We are young")

Solid song. Strange Desire was great, and this sounds like another song straight from that sound which is good in my book.
I like fun. as well, but Bleachers perfectly fits for that summery vibe.

I liked when this dude was singing in his lower register on this song, but the chorus has some of the worst layered gang vocals I've ever heard. It's a hard 2/5, maybe a soft 2.5/5. Far better than fun. at the very least.

yah this is really good, not quite as rock solid as Like a River Runs or Rollercoaster, but man can the dude write a pop hook
