Black Malachite Fades to Dark

2017-01-01 by SteveOffProbation | 87 Comments
California-based musician Black Malachite has just released a new single from his upcoming EP, Rage. The first single is entitled Dark Fade, and showcases a significant change in style, switching from an experimental ambient dubstep IDM sound to a more metalcore sound. Rage is due out January 12th.

the bass is kind of cool but otherwise some of this is just cringy, like the electronic parts are just so horribly forced into there. Riff is kind of cool although its kind of boring at the same time. I like Snide and never hated or loved his music but this needs some vast improvements.

tbh making news articles for it is a bit redundant considering he makes a list every day and most of them are about new music (most of which end up never happening). not to be negative or whatever

the only decent parts were the metal riffs and the harsh vocals and everything else was awful. just keep those parts and maybe you could make something decent out of it

you really should just take more time with your music.... I know some musicians who have sat on songs for years & years and during the time experimented recording multiple versions just to see how it turns out

I just read through this thread, and I really appreciate all the feedback (positive and negative). I wanted to address a few specific things that have been said in this thread.

- I'm not sticking with this metalcore style, this is just for this EP only. It was a small experiment because I wanted to have a little fun with the genre. My third album is going to be a blend of the styles I had on Distortion World / Void.

- I appreciate all of you critiquing my vocal mix, and my vocals. This was my first time putting my screams on anything recorded (that wasn't a demo). It was also my first time attempting to master non-spoken word vocals. I'm going to keep practicing and working on them.

- I was hoping to go for a pseudo-industrial vibe with the low synth melody that was prevalent throughout the song, I'm sorry the effect didn't come across as intended and that it seemed forced.

- I'm not actually "experimental ambient dubstep IDM" that was just a joke by the person who wrote the news article (a funny one tbh). I just consider myself Electronic / Ambient (bar this EP)

Thank you all for giving it a listen and your honest thoughts! I didn't expect a news article to get posted.

I'm going to be honest malachite, it also boils down tro what you listen to. You will always be the combined derivative of what you listen to, which simply is far from liked here. I think you should find a better place to put out your music, here you'll simply get a lot of hate.

As for Snide, take out that spoken word nonsense as it doesn't work at all. The actual metal aspects were derivative but workable. That synth only served to detract and should be reworked or dropped completely.

Hey, snide. I liked the synths, but I'm a sucker for synths like that in metalcore. Screams were good, didn't like the layering. Immediately thought of Omerta during the beginning, but didn't care for it. Keep doing you.
