Architects' Tom Searle dies

2016-08-21 by anarchistfish | 66 Comments
The brother and band-mate of Architects' co-founding member Tom Searle has given the tragic and shock news that the guitarist has passed away after a 3 year battle with cancer. The band pledges to continue at least in touring their latest album but the possibility of new music in the future is uncertain with Tom having been their principal songwriter.

The band have set up a donation page for The Martlets Hospice in Hove in thanks for the treatment Tom received there. Tom died in the early hours of the 20th August and was 28 years old. Dan Searle has appealed for respect for the band's privacy in their time of mourning.

Awful news, to have a career cut short like that at such a young age. Deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends, now's the time to jam his music and remember him by it.

they said they're going to continue touring for a while in his honor, but that they probably won't release any new material unless it's something they feel he would have been proud of.

RIP Tom. I'm so bummed over this as a fan but I can't even imagine what it must be like for his twin brother. my sympathy to his bandmates and family.

Really sad. Didn't know anything of his illness. Dude put out a lot of great work and is gone too soon. It's just sad all around for someone to die so young. No one should have to suffer through something as awful as cancer. Hollow Crown was my introduction to this band and the dude clearly knew how to write some awesome riffs. Really sucks he's gone. Can't imagine the toll this has taken on Dan and the rest of the band.

Never been a huge fan but I love Hollow Crown. I also never realized how pivotal this dude was to the band, he pretty much wrote all their songs starting with Nightmares when he was just 18.

So sad.... RIP

What the fuck, this came out of nowhere. I can't believe this, he was one of the best guitarists in the UK metalcore scene. I'm not sure how the band will continue without him but I'm sure they will do in his memory. He may be gone but they can keep him alive through the songs he wrote.

Horrible news. He was a great musician and 28 is just horrifically young for anyone to die. It's amazing that he had it in him to play two shows at the end though and I have massive respect for him.

Not to derail the thread, but the intro paragraph seriously needs an edit. Typos and awkward phrasing all over the place that reads like it was written by someone that barely has a grasp on the English language.

RIP Tom. I've been spinning architects albums yesterday and today. The dude was a great songwriter and guitarist. He will be missed. I'll have to read into the lyrics from their last album a little more closely now.

It makes me wonder if Tom's illness had anything to do anything with giving Adam the title as an official member of the band. As if to say, should something happen to me, this guy is worthy of being to be my successor someday.

I'm sure Architects will continue, I have little doubt that they discussed this eventuality at some point and Tom probably told them to continue without him. All depends on whether the band has the drive to carry on after the current tour ends, and if they can write anything they think Tom would approve of. It'll be like when Slipknot took some time out after Paul Gray died though with a small hiatus for a mourning period, I guess.

Tunaboy45

The difference between Architects and Slipknot is that Slipknot has 8 other members and Paul wasn't the principal songwriter and mastermind of the band.

anarchistfish
August 22nd 2016

Paul wrote much of the music actually.

DatsNotDaMetulz
August 22nd 2016

Yeah like 90% of the music for Slipknot was written by Joey, Mick or Paul. After Paul died and Joey left, Jim took on more of a songwriting role. His increased input to Slipknot was probably part of the reason why he was told to leave Stone Sour.

I'm sure Architects will come back after a break with one of their best albums. It may take 3 or 4 years but I'm sure it'll come.
