Yeah, but youtube wasn't always owned by google... that might have been too early on though for anyone to realize or actively pursue legal action.

YouTube has a copyright law though. Even before Google came you could have chosen a track from a restricted selection of allowed music to put in your videos. I guess that was at least something.

They were shut down in germany for ages. But RIP.

A shame because it was a good source of obscure stuff. You can always try using Deezer which has a similar interface, good quality and it's not illegal. Don't know about obscure releases though because I've been using it for a week.

There was a ton of stuff on there that you couldn't find elsewhere, started using it a lot more recently. This makes me sad.

The only nice part about Grooveshark was that it was a loophole for lazy college DJ's to play music from our computers because we can't technically use Spotify. Apparently it had a lot of rarities though, maybe I should've dug around a bit more.

Grooveshark re-ignited my passion for making playlists, and for that I will always be grateful.
