Journey Game OST Vinyl

2015-04-21 by heyadam | 22 Comments
Composer Austin Wintory, of PlayStation game "Journey" fame, is teaming up with iam8bit to release the Grammy nominated official Journey game soundtrack on vinyl.

In addressing the artistic direction of the package, an iam8bit representative said that:

"This set includes two picture discs, featuring unique art on each side (For math junkies, that’s FOUR different sides of visual goodness!). The scarf of the Traveler wraps around the album’s perimeter, creating an almost hypnotic effect as it spins. If you pay close attention to the Traveler’s robe, you’ll notice that the embroidery becomes more ornate as you progress from side A to side D — just like each time you beat the game."

The package costs $35 and the pre-orders begin on Thursday, April 23 at 10:00am PST.
In addition to the vinyl packaging, a limited edition screen print of Journey themed art will go up on sale for $60.

Does anybody know if the game itself is any good?

It is among the best "art games" ever created, along with Ico, Okami, Braid, Limbo, Flower...

The game is my all time-favorite, that's why I was so stoked that this is getting pressed. The pressing is absolutely beautiful - can't wait to pre-order. It's weird but that game definitely means a ton to me

I always thought Limbo and Ico were overrated for what they were. The idea of Journey as a video game seems ridiculous, but I can see exactly how and why it makes people feel good. Shovel Knight or Rayman Origins are my examples of truly great games. Although Valiant Hearts and Braid are pretty fun.

But anyway what's so great about this OST never listened to it, just assumed it was boring landscapes.

It's a bad idea on paper but it was one of the most rewarding playthroughs in recent memory for me. I've yet to meet anyone who hates this game. Or even say the music was bad.

Flower played like shit tbh. And you missed Shadow of the Colossus.

Well the PS3 versions control was horrendous. Presentation was fantastic (as always) but the controls ruined the whole experience for me.

i don't remember playing much of it on the ps3, but it seems like the biggest criticism was the awkward controlling. trust me, the ps4 version doesn't suffer from this at all thanks to the sixaxis controller. if you own a ps4 or ever find an opportunity to play it, i'd recommend it. i hate using this word, but it really is a profound experience with a lot of subtextual meaning.

madmike: what seems ridiculous about journey's concept? seems pretty straightforward to me

WTF ?! Shovel Knight and Rayman are not 'art games'. If you can't see the difference between entertainment and art, then perharps you're missing something.

Good entertaining games are released every month whereas good art games are way more rare, that's why people love them so much, I guess.

Also, this LP would cost me £40.50p with the shittest postal service. Love Journey and the soundtrack, but I ain't paying that.

I'm lucky enough that I live in LA now so I can just go to iam8bit's gallery and pick it up - otherwise shipping would be an extra $15.00 - not about that.

hey evenoss, I'm talking video games period. All I said is that they're truly great games, and that I think most of the overhyped art games are not "truly great."

that's all I said, are you stupid?
