This is your captain speaking, all aboard the hype train
| |
HOLY FUCK, just holy fuck
| |
Thank you for converting the cost to bitcoin for me, that was vital.
| |
It's quirky as BtBaM have always been but with a whole new flavor. Every goddamn time I think 'this time it's gonna suck' and they just fucking destroy it.
| |
ready yourselves
| |
so goood :D
| |
I can't jam this because of class, but how does this sound stylistically?
| |
I can't even.
| |
pretty good, but the cleans are pretty gay, and need more harsh vocals
| |
Believe they were gonna go in a more prog rock/Rock Opera direction with this album, sorta like what Opeth did. Hated how it ended abruptly but i understand why. They could make anything and i would listen to it. BTBAM is reaching the level (already there?) where they don't need to impress anyone.
| |
FUCK YES
| |
It ended abruptly because it's not a single edit and it links to the next song on the disc
| |
i'm kinda scared tbh
| |
Sounds kinda like a mix between Neal Morse and BTBAM, the vocals are too high in the mix for me though
| |
I've never understood the appeal of this band. It seems to me that ever since Colors, they've been playing nothing but boring and derivative Prog Metal / Rock, the worst offender being The Parallax II. Which is sad, because they have major potential, that much is seen in Astral Body.
| |
Yup it's BTBAM.
| |
Parallax II was disappointingly average. Great Misdirect was decent though. They're probably never going to be as good as they were during the Silent Circus--Colors days.
Also fuck iTunes i'll wait for a version on youtube or soundcloud.
| |
Can't open link, anyone have an alternate link??
| |
Even if they went all soft prog rock it couldn't possibly be as bad as the new White Arms of Athena so there's that. 2 mins in and it sounds aight
Edit: okay this is really not very good
| |
Song is amazing. They're the only band I've liked who change and only change for the better.
| |
song sounds kind of like opeth and cynic
| |
Love all the dorks in here questioning why everybody likes BTBAM.
| |
"Song is amazing. They're the only band I've liked who change and only change for the better."
They never change.
| |
This is kinda....average.
| |
instrumentally it's pretty good but those vocals....
| |
Twas pretty good...but hoping it will be much better in the context of the rest of the album
| |
I am not liking this at all, and the vocals are terrible... :/
| |
haven't listened to this band really at all over the last year and a half or so and I kinda miss being obsessed with them but unfortunately I'm not huge on this
| |
It seriously sounds like they built a song around the wank from the later Dream Theater albums and added harsh vocals. The song has no flow or cohesion whatsoever, and Tommy's harsh vocals sound absolutely burnt out. The song might make sense within the context of the album, but if the entire album sounds like this, I am not interested in the least. I am extremely disappointed with this.
| |
Between the Boring and Me
| |
what wwf said
| |
I'm not sure what I think of the song so far.
I've listened to it three times and there's stuff I like about it and stuff I don't. See this is the direction I wanted them to go in after Colors but I'm still not sure about it. It sounds like a parody of Colors. They even blatantly recycle a section from Informal Gluttony. The high pitch shouting at the 5 minute mark is extremely cheesy and should have been left out entirely.
I do like the more subdued sound through and there are some beautiful parts like when it slows down. The track does sort of pick up near the end but it's too little too late.
I'll wait until the album comes out but I'm not sure what to think about it so far
| |
what section from informal gluttony?
| |
The slower part at 4:25.
| |
Some of the vocals here just do noooooot work
| |
Who's producing this album? The production is nowhere near as deep as their last couple albums, it seems like most of the song is two guitar tracks
| |
@wwf: Jamie King, which is disappointing, because did a phenomenal job producing The Contortionist's recent album.
| |
I guess I wouldn't say the productions terrible and I don't think the arrangement of the song helps much either
| |
song is okay but something feels verrrrry off
| |
lol @ people talking production value on a youtube track
| |
I like this a lot, personally.
| |
I'm just glad it doesn't sound too much like the last album. Not as heavy but pretty damn groovy.
| |
SO GOOD! Harsh vocals sounding different though
| |
sounds cool i guess
| |
not feeling it Andrew?
| |
had the same feeling with telos. it just sounded much better within the album
| |
Track's ok, basically just sounds like another song from The Parallax. They're trending more and more towards Dream Theater metal. Which I doooon't quite know if I'm on board for.
| |
I love it! I think the clean vox are better than on Parallax II. And if they're gonna shy away from the heavier side, that's fine, and I love that the intensity's still there! SO FUCKING PUMPED for the whole album!
| |
Song is descent. Should have seen this direction the band is taking (space rock opera) coming after their last album. I will listen because they are BTBAM but I hope this isn't the final production version of this song because it needs a lot of work.
| |
lol they release the longest song as the first single
| |
Wow, that was fucking bad. And super boring. Sounds like a b-side off of The Great Misdirect.
| |
I dig it. Its better than anything off the Parallax. Im glad they didn't continue with all that alien shit they have been doing.
| |
Haven't heard it yet.
How many genres can they not stick to in this song?
| |
lol this sounds nothing like TGM.
| |
I couldn't really get into paralax part 2. If this is just them following the route they're going I'm not interested.
| |
I really enjoyed that.
| |
gonna wait til i'm high as fuck to spin this one. bet it rules
| |
It's no Trophy Scars that's for sure.
| |
They need to go back to alaska / colors. They're playing out the prog side a little too much. A new glass casket album would also suffice.
| |
How many dogecoins is that?
| |
awful song
gonna listen now
| |
not digging this at all for the most part. some nice instrumentals here and there but the vocals and this change of style for them is not doing them any favors.
| |
didnt realize this band thought they were Protest the Mastodon now.
| |
Didn't listen but I'll taken your word for it.
| |
The vocals are Periphery level on this, and maybe worse.
| |
song was dicks
| |
Took a couple plays but its a great song, stoked for the whole thing
| |
Bet this is total ballsack
| |
thats honestly pretty insulting coming from you, you're like the master of terrible comments
| |
I think I've finally grown out of Between the Buried and Me. It's becoming increasingly difficult to follow and enjoy their musical progression. They need to cut down on the wankery and crank up the heaviness. Doubt it's gonna ever happen again though.
| |
usually i don't like when they release a new song because people are so quick to hate on them but this time it makes sense. this track is really not good at all and this is coming from a big BTBAM fan.
| |
:]
| |
between the btbam and me strike back
| |
sucks hard
| |
agreed
| |
Not digging this exceptionally, but I think that's how I felt about about the first track from Future Sequence as well, so I'm still excited. Not to mention this track is taken completely out of context, as well.
| |
So are these guys ever going to write another actual song again or are they just going to keep on writing disjointed passages that go on and on for 10 minutes.
| |
Damn, what a profoundly bland and boring song. I love everything through Colors, but it all took a turn for the dull starting with The Great Misdirect. They've essentially just finalized their conversion to Dream Theater.
| |
The wide range of vocals sounds a bit awkward
| |
It's BTBAM finally eschewing the formula of "epic melodic part>4 minutes of heavy riffing>build up>epic melodic part" and actually using song structure.
I understand why some don't like it, but I love it.
| |
Don't get the comparisons, this doesn't really sound like much else they've ever done at first listen. It's definitely not anything like Parallax was, part I or II. And it's got most of the heavy stripped out, at least for this song, but I enjoy that guitar is still prominent.
Anyway, it's pretty cool, hopefully it plays better in context. It's not blowing my mind like the single Telos was from last album.
| |
lmao that part around 1:40, sounds like they just gave up trying to write a natural transition and made it cut to a different part. that part around like 4:30 until 5:30 was fucking horrid, not even listening to the rest
harsh vox are terrible and this sounds like them trying to be mars volta or maybe beardfish
song was dicks [2]
| |
def trying to be mars volta lol what the fuck idc i guess i like it
| |
if this is at all indicative of the rest of the album, then it's going to be nothing but pure wank with no redeeming qualities, so basically DT
| |
This song sounds nothing like anything off of The Great Misdirect. Anyone that says so is either an idiot of just trolling.
| |
"if this is at all indicative of the rest of the album, then it's going to be nothing but pure wank with no redeeming qualities, so basically DT"
Aren't most of their albums?
| |
slays
| |
"Aren't most of their albums?"
idk i still like colors but yeah its basically pure wank with forced tacky "creative" genre bending thrown around for good measure
| |
Wtf is this?
| |
The song isn't bad, but this change in sound is similar in veins to Opeth's where it strips much of the dynamic that made songs feel like roller coaster rides. It's more streamlined and less multifaceted, I can't think of a specific part that really stood out.
Seems like he can't scream anymore. Cleans aren't as bad as people are making them out to be but you get those people with every band whether it's deserved or not.
Not so hyped for the album anymore, but there's still 12 other songs on the album so we'll see how it turns out.
| |
Pretty good song.
| |
Not a huge fan of the production, as has been stated already on this thread, but the song is alright.
| |
great as usual, album will be 4.0/4.5
| |
This track is amazing, as is everything they do. Why all the hate?
| |
For me these guys will never top The Silent Circus. But I jumped off the bandwagon after Alaska so what do I know.
| |
Worst btbam track ever. I was seriously hoping they would drop some of the prog this time around. Like something reminiscent of Alaska
| |
gave it a couple more listens
love the PT esque chorus (come at me pots) and the deeper screams. i think theres one section thats just totally out of place and shit (dont remember when) but other than that pretty typical btbam
as for the TGM references i think its because its the triplet groove that was all over disease injury madness and it sounds similar to swim to the moon's jam session
anyway, i was hoping for a heavier btbam so this doesnt get my hopes up but its still a fun listen so eh, cant complain
| |
Didn't even get through the whole song, so boring and even more wanky than the last album.
| |
instrumentally I really like it, but some of tommy's melodies are surprisingly weak, considering I really enjoy his voice. Might take some time to feel this out.
| |
really good
| |
This is absolutely amazing. Can't wait for the album to drop!
| |
Can't comprehend the hate. These guys are better musicians and writers than most of the wank-metal these days.
| |
*Joins hype for track*
...realises amount of hype...
*Distances self from track*
| |
That part around the 4:30 mark which lasts for a minute or so is so obnoxiously terrible.
Also the YT comments are the best as usual, modern day Pink Floyd for sure!
| |
atrocious band thank you for bringing this to my attention so i can listen to it once and then never again
| |
wow this is like the softer parts of opeth those parts were incredibly shitty
| |
k thank you for showing me the light verm song rules band is incredible
| |
pretty good song, no surprises here really
| |
haha btbam. awful. some things never change
| |
I confess I'm a huge btbam fan but this sounds almost like the usual dream theater mess, way to many themes, overall inconsistens sound, cheese. In the end it sounds like a bands that lost its direction pretty similar to opeth in terms of messy songwriting. there is plenty of bands that could pull this exact shit off. it is weird how btbam get more proggy and loose their uniqueness at the same time...
| |
The hype for this is insane.
| |
it's actually funny to read all the 'naaaah they should go back to their core roots' blabla
| |
After a few more listens this just gets worse. I was never crazy about them but this is boring and derivative as fuck too, I feel. Takes some of the more boring parts of their discog and then some elements of older prog bands along with Tommy's fucking horrendous vocals and makes one really long really boring song. Oh well.
| |
People who think this is good Prog, probably don't listen to much Prog.
| |
lol @ people talking production value on a youtube track [2]
| |
this sounds amazing fuck all of you
| |
The vocal part at 5:00-5:30 is annoying. Wish they would omit it.
Good song, other than the vocals. Seem off.
| |
:^)
| |
true
| |
brb going to 1 their discog
| |
Pretty rad song. 10 minutes long but I still want more!
| |
"That part around the 4:30 mark which lasts for a minute or so is so obnoxiously terrible."
"Didn't even get through the whole song, so boring and even more wanky than the last album."
my nigga
| |
song is so good that i've been prematurely ejaculating since it's release
| |
Yeah this isn't too great...
| |
Can't believe all the negative feedback, I think this is awesome.
| |
this song is horrible. will never understand the comparison to TGM cause that album was pretty great. Better than colors for sure and in terms of songwriting extremely tight for a BTBAM record. You could argue that some of it was padded but this song is absolute trash. I mean trash.
Vocals are too loud for sure but at least his harsh vox have gotten more aggressive. Going Jacob bannon territory grit there. still bad.
| |
song is so good that i've been prematurely ejaculating since it's release [2]
| |
is that was your first time Ryus, you're becoming a real man
| |
first time prematurely yeah
im right on time usually
| |
i don't get the tgm comparisons either since that album was basically just colors with some more ideas thrown in, whereas this is hardly even metal
| |
I freakin' love this stuff. BTBAM can really do no wrong. Exception one weird passage here and there.
| |
song is so good that i've been prematurely ejaculating since it's release[3]
| |
not sure how any long-time BTBAM fan can jam this song. It outright sucks compared to what they were capable of.
While I'm at it, parallax 2 sucks as well.
Parallax one was pretty ok though.
| |
Yeah, song still blows dingle-berries
| |
"While I'm at it, parallax 2 sucks as well.
Parallax one was pretty ok though."
Sums up my thoughts well.
| |
shite song
| |
Lost a bit of interest with Parallax II and this song doesn't really help matters.
| |
new song and video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wLEY1jvN0Y
| |
not a terrible song and the video's kinda dark and clever
| |
wow this new BTBAM is legitimately horrible. How'd they regress so quickly?
The new Dream Theater incoming guys.
| |
yeah I just can't get into the new sound.
| |
Agreed, has some elements I like but I really get turned off by the vocals
| |
A bit late to the show. A part reminded me of Rishloo's Winslow, off the latest album.
| |
