Radiohead to begin recording next album in September

2014-07-15 by YourDarkAffected | 49 Comments
In a BBC 6 Music Mary Anne Hobbes Show interview, Jonny Greenwood, guitarist of Radiohead, stated, "We're going to start up in September, playing, rehearsing and recording and see how it's sounding."

This news follows similar reports by various band members in the past that plans to get back together sometime this summer were still "up in the air." However, these are the first definite plans to regroup since their hiatus started in late 2012.

The brief section with Greenwood can be found somewhere in the massive 180 minute podcast, which can be listened to below, if you really feel the need to.

suspiciously there's no indication in the article that the next Radiohead album isn't a tribute to Korn

First three happened during In Rainbows sessions, but they kept at it until they got the creativity back. Took two years, but they stayed together. Hopefully they don't call it quits this time just because they're at a creative low.

everyone is misinterpreting this imo. sounds to me more like they're gonna meet up in sept just to jam and work on some new stuff, but they've said fuck all about recording a new album just yet.

so this isn't really news. it's radiohead. they might release an album tomorrow or not until 2017.

the tkol stuff was infinitely better live. seeing them play those songs live made the album seem incomplete in comparison.

I'm not among the most memorable, but yeah I've been here for two years (a staffer for 1).

While I do like the sound of some of tkol stuff live (the guitars in magpie coming directly to mind- especially the basement recordings) i disagree. I think the album versions sound much better. It might not sound as instantly engaging as the other albums, but there is a hypnotic quality to the dreary like mood of tkol. I like that every radiohead album has a different "mood", and being someone who is proned to depression and insomnia, tkol's is one i always return to. I've really begun to love that moody and 'mechanical' sound they went for. (i don't know how many feel that way though).

yeah i agree In Rainbows/TKOL (live for me personally as thats my favorite way to listen to it, how can you beat TKOL + staricase and the daily mail?!) have been two of my personal favorites from them so I'm interested to see where they go from there. Hopefully they lay down some of the tracks they've been playing live like skirting on the surface, cut a hole, ful stop, identikit, etc

i'm not talking about "live versions," i mean LIVE live. i was blown away and haven't listened to the actual album since because i knew that'd be an exercise in disappointment.

yeah they came to michigan for the first time in over 15 years a couple summers ago. easily the best single set i've ever seen.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuTFhJrAvqc

(not my vid but thom holds the body of his guitar up to the mic and sings into the sound hole at one point so)

yeah at 3:40. I love Thom's concert antics. I love how he doesn't just perform the music he plays, like he gets truly consumed by
it (does that make sense?). My favourite song from them is "the national anthem" and in a few sets (like the one from I Might Be
Wrong) he does this rhythmic coughing in the intro, a small alteration, but it just makes it so much more awesome.

TKOL is great in its own way but I'd prefer something different from what they've done before. Which knowing them will probably be the case

YourDarkAffected

If there is a case to be made for any specific direction they'll go, I think it will be a more electronic/dancier album with the
style of the unreleased songs "Identikit" and "Fullstop" from their 2012 tour. I would really dig that too because those
songs are awesome.
