Tommy Ramone, 1952-2014 2014-07-12 by EyeForAnEye | 56 Comments | Tommy Ramone, drummer for, and last surviving original member of punk rock Icons The Ramones, has succumbed to cancer at the age of 62.
Originally born as Thomas Erdelyi, he was born in Hungary in 1952 to Holocaust survivors who later immigrated to the United States. In his youth, he would meet John
Cummings (Johnny Ramone) and the two would perform together in the mid 60s. Originally slated to be the manager of the Ramones, he quickly moved to drums not long after the
bands formation. He would remain their drummer in the formative years of the Ramones before being replaced by Marky Ramone. However, Tommy would work behind the scenes
again, helping produce the next string of albums by the Ramones.
Along with being a part of the formation for one of the most recognizable rock acts in history, Tommy was also an accomplished producer and songwriter having written a
majority of the smash hit single Blitzkrieg Bop.
Outside of the Ramones, Tommy over his career help produce albums for a slew of musicians including the Replacements and even Jimi Hendrix.
The Rock n Roll community has lost a pioneer and bonafide legend as he joins the rest of the original members of the Ramones in peaceful slumber. Rest in Power, Tommy
