The Contortionist breathe easy

2014-07-01 by Julianna Reed EMERITUS | 59 Comments
After two years of little news from The Contortionist, the Indiana-based progressive metal
group released a snippet from their upcoming album Language today. While the video's
just a minute long, it showcases a more organic aesthetic - something that differs wildly
from The Contortionist's recent material.

Language is slated for release on September 16th, and will officially introduce vocalist
Michael Lessard, previously of Last Chance to Reason, to the fold. Another detail to note
about the band's third effort is that it's produced by Jamie King- the man widely known for
also being Between the Buried and Me's producer.

"I'm beyond happy to share this album with people! The experience and result are something
I'm very proud to have been a part of," Lessard told Blabbermouth.net. He continued to say
that he thinks "this album will show how we've all progressed as writers and players."
Regardless of how many will agree with Lessard's sentiment about Language, one
thing's for certain- this album sounds like it'll be a change of pace for The Contortionist.

i definitely want this album to be heavy, but i like the idea of it being rooted in more positive themes overall. that would be a more natural fit for these guys than yet another space-themed agenda.

Video says 9.16.2014....not August.

This sounds in the slighty same vein as their prevous album. I prefered their deathcore in their debut album but maybe they will throw more of those influences into this.

Not debut, I meant Exoplanet. That album was pretty heavy all the way through.

Should be interesting though theyll probably never reach Exoplanet status again. Not a fan of Lctr at all, but from what ive heard, Lessard is the better vocalist.

This sounds like it'll be good.

Intrinsic was a weird album for me. When it first came out, I absolutely adored it, thinking it was one of the most refreshing metal releases I'd heard in a long time. Then, as I usually do, I didn't go back to it for about +6 months, and when I did it didn't engage me at all. I just found it so strange that an album I loved became one that I didn't really like over a space of time spent not listening to it. It's not like I didn't like it AS much, just not at all. It went from being a 4.5 to a 3.0.

Hopefully the same doesn't happen with this album. I still dig Exoplanet quite a bit.

If they're moving toward exploring their more melodic side and incorporating the progressive nature of their heavy side into it, this could be stellar. Very excited.

it is possible to have the album already finished and sent as early as they want for promo listenings or just for the hell of it

and no you're not that privileged

are you saying that what i said sounds awful or are you hating on oscillator cause man that track rules

i am mostly imagining a mixtape of just Oscillator placed thirteen times, and i wonder how little i'd feel about the song by the time the cd stopped playing haha

but i don't think Oscillator is one of the band's better songs, actually!! i much prefer most of Exoplanet, and i think the main singles off Intrinsic take more interesting turns. still like Oscillator but it is a little predictable and its intro feels needlessly dense i guess
