Lana Del Rey Drops West Coast

2014-04-14 by anarchistfish | 30 Comments
Lana Del Rey has released the audio for the first single off her upcoming third studio album
Ultraviolence, after débuting the song at her Coachella set this weekend.

"West Coast" generally remains faithful to the moody pop that characterised her 2012
breakout album Born To Die, with the added edge of a shift down in tempo during the
chorus. A music video has been promised in the near future.

Ultraviolence has yet to be given an official release date, but a May release is
rumoured.

The slowdown for the chorus kind of bothers me.

I dig it, and I detect the Auerbach influence here.

I kinda wish she'd do something more fast paced. Most of her music is already pretty slow/midtempo. Doesn't anything for me to make a song slighter slower during the chorus.

huge fan of her debut album, but this is kinda meh. Hopefully the rest of the album isn't like that.

Idk man, her voice just sounds a little.....off? Especially in the verses. Granted she's never really had an outstanding voice, it just is cringing here.....especially the buildup to the chorus. Her voice doesn't match the tone at all, and the transition is super awkward.

Pretty decent song otherwise.

The chorus is so similar to "Gods & Monsters" that it doesn't feel like a new song.

SteveRodgers, the unreleased track that has a bit of a disco feel was early up tempo. "Meet Me in the Pale Moonlight" or something to that effect.

pretty chill song, my girlfriend has been playing her music non stop lately and this is probably one of the most interesting songs of hers (as far as production goes) most her stuff sounds so similar

Meh... Her first album was one of 2012 best albums . This song is average , nothing more. Hope the rest of the album will sound as her first one.

The song is okay, imo maybe one of her best downtempo songs.

It has the feel of Burning Desire + Children of the Bad Revolution in conjunction with the Auerbach influence. After all, he is one of the main producers of her upcoming album. I'm also a massive fan of her debut but since the release of Paradise she's made it clear she will not be returning to the instrumentals seen in BTD.

lyrics are so dumb. Boring song. I feel people only like her because of her image and her desire to be
vintage.

that one part is lifted straight from edge of seventeen by stevie nicks. "move baby move baby"

listened once and thought it was pretty cool. gonna wait for the whole album to drop before i make a judgement.

apokolypz you're wrong man, i could give a fuck about her image. she's got a great voice and has some awesome songs

For some reason, in the beginning this really reminds me of some songs from TDAGARIM... with female vocals. Love this song.
