Jurassic 5 Split

2007-03-19 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 8 Comments
Jurassic 5 MC Soup has given the strongest indication yet that the group are finished as a creative entity.

In an interview with an Australian news outlet News.com.au, the rapper stated that while it may not be the most amicable split, it isfor the best: "After the tour, that’s basically it. I don’t want to sit here and fake around with it - we’re not seeing eye-to-eye right now.

"People see us as a harmonising, loving group, but that’s far from the truth…I’d like to keep it going, but you can’t force grown men to do what they don’t want to do…I’m hoping people are professional enough to do what they have to do. I think it’ll be all right…Some people may say it’s a creative thing, but I’m not buying it.

"Some might say business, some might say merchandising, whatever, there’s some really stupid shit - some really childish things - happening” He said solo projects for various members of the group are also playing a part. “When it comes down to it, some people here want their own shine, their own thing. If that’s what you want, I say ‘more power to you’…I hope it works out for you - just don’t come up with lame excuses (for J5’s demise)…I thought we’d be a bit better at handling it, but we’re not. We’re only human…Even though we do what we do doesn’t mean we’re the best communicators.

"For certain members it’s been brewing for a while - I’ve heard in passing there are things that could have been brought up a long time ago about how people were feeling that weren’t said.”

Sixth member DJ Cut Chemist left the band before the recording of 2006's Feedback.

This is sad. I've always perceived them exactly how he described - a harmonising loving group of men. This is really unexpected to me, though I heard it on the radio yesterday. But before that...yeah.
That's truly unfortunate. I thought Feedback was uninspired which I guess is a harbinger of their disbanding, but Power in Numbers and especially Quality Control were wonderful albums.
Took the words right out of my mouth.

Well at least they put a couple of good albums as Jom put it, and thought this was old news as well. This Message Edited On 03.20.07

Same here...

this is the first I've heard of them splitting up.
