Did you find the post by the alleged victim in the Jon Parkin incident where she explains why she didn't file a case against him, or are you asking a rhetorical question? No one is telling you to believe one side or the other. You just merely have to acknowledge that there are two sides to the story instead of just writing off one side as "some girl just doing it for attention".

Do you understand the barriers that exist for a person to file a rape case and see it through prosecution to conviction? A girl in a skimpy dress who goes to a party and gets drunk or a woman who voluntarily invites a man into her home for any reason becomes a "slut who was asking for it" by default. At BEST, she is perceived as dumb slut should have known better. At WORST she MUST have been looking to get laid and now wants 15 minutes of fame to cash in on.

Couple that with the fact that finding evidence and proving anything in such cases is notoriously difficult, especially when such an event happens without an actual physical struggle. If she was too scared of being killed or seriously injured by a much larger and stronger human being to fight back then she must obviously have consented, right?

And without physical evidence of a struggle, how does one prove that the act wasn't consensual, or that it occurred at all? Would any traumatised person want to repeatedly relive the event in a courtroom recounting it to strangers or have those strangers use the necessarily invasive methods to attempt to gather the required evidence if it even exists? Even IF the evidence exists, you merely have a case of he-said she-said to establish consent. How are you going to prove THAT beyond a reasonable doubt?

For all these reasons, the percentage of rape allegations that result in convictions is extremely low, which in turn dissuades people from ever actually going to the police with their allegations because it simply isn't worth it.


tl;dr - The point is not to believe blindly one side or the other, but to understand both sides before passing an opinion.

As with anything in life, most of the time you can avoid getting into these situations by using common sense and better judgment.
