Prom Queen sign to Epitaph

2013-11-14 by SIMBOLIC | 33 Comments
Australian metalcore band I Killed The Prom Queen have signed with well known punk/hardcore label Epitaph. This comes almost two and a half years after they reformed, and is accompanied by news that the label will be releasing their new album in early 2014.

Former Bring Me The Horizon guitarist Jona Weinhofen (founding member of IKTPQ) also had this to say:

"We are absolutely ecstatic to join the Epitaph Records family. Having worked with the label previously with Bring Me The Horizon, I knew exactly what Epitaph was capable of and that it would be the perfect home for I Killed The Prom Queen. Epitaph is already the home to so many of our heroes such as Converge, Refused, Pennywise and Every Time I Die, and has helped launch our good friends Parkway Drive, The Ghost Inside, Day Of Contempt, Letlive. and more. To say that we are a part of this family is truly an honour".

This new album will be the first since their fairly well received sophomore album Music For The Recently Deceased, back in 2006.

band has long since been irrelevant. 7 years since their last record. They should just give up.

I've never heard anything by these guys, but the fact that Bring Me the Horizon supports them already speaks volumes about how bad their music is.

As long as Edd isn't coming back this band can fuck themselves.

if he comes back, they can still fuck themselves, but less hard.

There is no IKPTQ without Ed. I saw them last year with the new vocalist but something was missing.

Excited cause of nostalgia and respect at how massive these guys were for the Australian hardcore scene. They discovered parkway drive and so many others.

The best thing they ever did was discover parkway drive...

Never saw them abbreviated to Prom Queen, confused me a bit. Also I thought Jona was done with touring? Didn't he first quit Bleeding Through because of that and then BMTH? Need to remember what that one song of theirs was that I liked.

Guys anything this band has done without Ed was dogshit and belongs in the darkest recesses of metalcore.

Not that the album with Ed was good, but he was a great vocalist, making the horrible music somewhat listenable..

kind of

Wow, i'm surprised at the hate for this band. I've always considered them one of the top bands that
play this style. They're fairly standard metalcore, but they do it so well.

band has long since been irrelevant. 7 years since their last record. They should just give up.

They broke up, and now they're back together. Are you saying bands aren't allowed to do that?

I'm actually looking forward to this, but secretly dreading that it may not live up to "Music for the Recently Deceased." I actually enjoyed "Memento Vivere", and although the band will never be the same without Ed, they may release something worthwhile.

I bought their first EP while living in Adelaide back in the day for about $5, I sold it on ebay for about $70 last year, best investment ever!

new singer used to sing for The Red Shore rite? i mean he is not terrible if anything, but something bout Music For The Recently Deceased just hit home so many years ago, doubt they will top that, atleast without Butcher.

Yea same goes for BMTH. I remember at warped they were telling the crowd to go see Every Time I Die and The Dillinger Escape Plan instead of them lol. Best thing that band had ever did in my eyes.

It's interesting that so many people say they'll never be the same without Butcher, when he was only in the band for 2 years. Crafter was their original vocalist, the one that made them famous, and was around a lot longer. I like Butcher better though, so I don't disagree.

Their current guy sounds a lot like Butcher, to my ears at least, so I'm not worried about the change in vocalist. I'm just worried that their songwriting will conform to modern standards, and I hate most metalcore from the past 3 or 4 years.

Of course they have the right to reform. Just everyone moved on. No one cares about them anymore.
