Dream Theater: Track listing for new album revealed

2007-02-21 by Alex101 | 17 Comments
Progressive metal pioneers Dream Theater have finalized the track listing for their new album, Systematic Chaos, due in June via Roadrunner Records.

"This album's got all of the elements we've become known for," reveals drummer Mike Portnoy, who co-produced the CD with guitarist John Petrucci (Paul Northfield engineered and mixed the effort). "The focus on musicianship, the skull-crushing riffs, the big progressive epics and the heart-wrenching melodies. We've got one of the strongest and most devoted fan bases in the world, and they should certainly be happy with the new material." The disc sports seven new songs, one of which runs 25 minutes.

Systematic Chaos track listing:

01. In The Presence of Enemies Pt.1
02. Forsaken
03. Constant Motion
04. The Dark Eternal Night
05. Repentance
06. Prophets of War
07. The Ministry of Lost Souls
08. In The Presence of Enemies Pt.2

Dream Theater had spent its entire career on Elektra and Atlantic, an arrangement that ended with the 2005 studio album Octavarium. According to Billboard.com, The group has sold 2.1 million CDs in the United States since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991.

Although details have yet to be nailed down, Dream Theater will tour this summer in support of Systematic Chaos, including European festival appearances.

It sounds like a more technical sounding album.

Even weirder it sounds like James LaBrie is going to grunt on this one, it indeed sounds more like death metal or something. It just sounds a lot more heavy than even Train of Thought.

The Dark Eternal Night sounds like these guys are trying to emulate a band like Emperor. Wow. Weird. I think this may be more intense than ToT

It would be near to impossible to be more intense than Train of Thought. I'm incredibly excited for this, I hope they tour the US near me.

ToT is my favourite. But I'm more of a fan of the harder stuff than the sometimes cheesy ballads. This looks like it's gonna be a much darker effort than they've had previously.
Not coming to Australia either as far as I can see. What a surprise. They'll never come here.

It sounds like theirs going to be some heavy stuff on this album.

I hope Prophets of War isn't going to be another political rant. Sacrificed Sons sucked.

Hmmmm. Hopefully better than octavarium (I'm not bashing octavarium, but it just seemed a little too poppy

i think this is gonna be a mix of 6degree and ToT, with which they might wanna approach to fantasymetal fans like Dragonforce fans^^

anyway nice to hear that they are still not worn out

Sounds a bit more...shall we say "evil" than DT are accustomed to.

I can't say I'm looking forward to the 25 minute song, but I might give this a shot.

Man, I love Dream Theater epics... I'm hyped for this, big time. This is one of the first releases I just want now.
