by the way, album of the year so far
|
| |
how is this in comparision to white tomb
|
| |
completely different, and better
|
| |
gonna have to check it out then i guess
|
| |
for some reason i thought this was a deathcore band
|
| |
I might jam this later.
|
| |
for some reason i thought this was a deathcore band
you were thinking of winds of plague [:
|
| |
sounds like Illud done right. 3/5
|
| |
gotta get on this
|
| |
It's good man
|
| |
AOTY so far [2]
|
| |
rules
|
| |
Must... listen... later...
|
| |
Highly doubt this is AOTY so far, but I'm still gonna check it.
|
| |
I listened to the first couple of songs, was pretty good, will listen to the rest tomorrow. doubt it's aoty so far tho
|
| |
i thought this would suck because of the single but i listened to parts of a few songs and i now think it will be awesome. i just wish it didnt have that terribad album cover and the kick drums could be less clicky.
|
| |
By far the best they have done 4.5/5
|
| |
Lacks cohesion maybe, need 1 more go at it
after first listen, i'd give it like a 3.8-4
|
| |
i could hear the grind influence that they mentioned. a lot more experimentation.
the first 2 tracks suck, but it definitely gets better moving on through the album. solid 4 for me
|
| |
I've heard it five times now, and I've got it at a 4.5. It's a toss up between this and A Forgotten Land for 2013AOTY at the moment.
|
| |
Tis aoty. Noctus speak truths.
|
| |
Really excellent album. Sounds virtually nothing like White Tomb but still outpaces it pretty much everywhere.
|
| |
how is this in comparision to white tomb
Everything they've ever put out is better than that album.
And fucking lol, this is not aoty.
|
| |
the wizard always speaks the truth!
|
| |
It's not album of the year, but it's still really good
|
| |
Burnt Year
Fuck me sideways
|
| |
I'm more into A Remedy And A Fever, and Scald Scar of Water. I friggin love the chanted cleans on this record.
|
| |
burnt year, a remedy and a fever and twelve was ruin are all fucking brilliant
|
| |
BURNT YEAR HOLY FUCKING TITS.
This is seriously good. AOTY calls are quite justified.
|
| |
It's as if you guys haven't been laid.
|
| |
Wizard bringing the hard truth.
|
| |
Wizard are you saying this has been a good year for BM?
|
| |
The Ash Borer E.P. is better than this and my fav for bm this year. Other than that, this has not been a great year for bm so far and I'm not saying this is aoty honours either. Maybe top 20, don't know yet though, I like this quite a bit but I have to give it another few listens. I'm in the minority with Mammal being their best album so take my opinion with a grain of salt, I obviously don't have a clue about anything.
|
| |
tit
ll
|
| |
Hahahaha I caught that mistake and fixed it, don't want people knowing I'm heterosexual.
|
| |
paysage? caladan brood, summoning, fell voices, hope drone? it's been pretty good for bm so far
|
| |
'I'm in the minority with Mammal being their best album so take my opinion with a grain of salt, I obviously don't have a clue about anything.'
Don't go all Noctus on us bro
I actually prefer Mammal to White Tomb too, but I think this one is better than either of those
|
| |
I haven't even heard Mammal but White Tomb was the first black metal record I ever liked
|
| |
Enthrone Darkness Triumphant was my first BM record
and its not even 'classic' bm
|
| |
Mammal is better than White Tomb.
|
| |
it's been pretty good for bm so far
Paysage
Hope Drone
Entropia
Leucosis
Vallendusk
Altar of Plagues
Fell Voices
Ash Borer
Caladan Brood
Summoning
Annorkoth
Skagos
October Falls
Botanist
Thrawsunblat
and
Twilight, Deafheaven, Darkspace, Woman is the Earth, Arizmenda and a ton of other groups have yet to release their stuff for this year. It's shaping up to be an excellent year.
And Mammal was kinda meh.
|
| |
agreed zary. tho I wouldn't say October Falls is bum. great album tho
|
| |
This is decent at best
|
| |
You're decent at best!!!
|
| |
zaruyache, 60% of the bands you've listed produced shit, even Fell Voices felt kind of dull. My biggest disappointment off the list was Leucosis. We will just wait and see what the rest of your list comes up with.
And Crysis knows what's up, this album has way too many inconsistencies and post-black poop to be considered anything above a 3.5 (which is pushing it).
|
| |
I'm still undecided with this album. I feel the exact same way as Wizard but I believe that there
are a lot of very strong moments on this album that deliver everything that people like Noctus are
claiming to be consistent throughout the entire piece. I'm stuck at a 4/5 right now and White
Tomb is still my favourite AoP album.
I won't dismiss the fact that the album is much less conventional than a typical metal record and so
maybe I have to work at better understanding it. But none of the listens I've given the album so far
have erased my doubts.
|
| |
Wiz is a ball of sunshine as always :-] And the Gilead version of the Regnum Saturni is a lot clearer than the European mastering, so it's still potentially better than you think. They just have to stream the rest of it.

where this album doesn't really have two tracks of the same ilk it's anything but inconsistent, and the more you listen to it the more that becomes apparent because the atmosphere becomes more discernible
and i don't think this has much in common with any other post-black release at all, even their last two albums are very different from this one, they changed the entire songwriting aesthetic completely
i really don't know where the majority of your comments are coming from. if this were altar of plagues' first release i doubt as many people would be calling it post-black metal

I will take your word on it, nice bit of info too ; ). Sorry for being a doucher.
Noctus, the atmosphere is consistent throughout but (and I'm going out on a limb here) the industrial tinged tracks (Burnt Year and scattered industrial ideas throughout a few other songs) are what make this appeal to me. It's their more straightforward tracks such as "God Alone" that offer nothing in the way of uniqueness to the album. And we would have called this post-black metal if it came out before White Tomb, it's got all the dynamics of post-metal present. It's that these guys have just found clever ways to disguise recycled ideas.

this is basically word for word the ad hominem argument you make literally every single time someone disagrees with you
|
| |
I reallllllyyyyyyyyyyyyy liked this album way more than I thought I would, considering how different it is from white tomb. I think a bit of a stylistic transition was in order though... as much as I love 15+ minute ambient metal jams, I'm glad they switched it up a bit. And that intro, hawtdayum
|

you could make this argument about any band that change things between albums, it's a completely meaningless argument
this is basically word for word the ad hominem argument you make literally every single time someone disagrees with you
someone says it's post-black poop
i say post-black isn't the focus
this is the ad hominem argument i always make
uhh yeah okay
