Shame, but his solo stuff is pretty good. So I don't mind the wait.
| |
I hope he decides to make another No-Man record with Bowness, because it's long overdue
| |
Why am I not surprised at all?
| |
Shame, but his solo stuff is pretty good. So I don't mind the wait. [2]
| |
Personally, I think Grace for Drowning was the best thing he's ever done (though it's not for everyone's tastes) and Raven fuckin ruled!
So long as he keeps doing solo albums this good, I'm actually not that upset, as much as I love Porcupine Tree
| |
Damn i dig these guys
| |
damn
| |
Hopefully it will only be 1 year.
| |
Shame, but his solo stuff is pretty good. So I don't mind the wait. [3]
| |
I think we pretty much knew this already but sux anyway. The solo stuff he's putting out is pretty awesome though, so I won't complain
| |
meh

:[
| |
Eh, I stopped caring about this band after In Abstentia.
| |
What's the difference, anyway? His solo stuff is basically just Porcupine Tree without the awful metal riffs and with more '70s homage.
| |
^ that is a pretty big difference
there are still like 10 other PT albums to jam. i don't mind this as long as it means he'll be putting out more excellent solo albums. and agreed with dante GFD is the best thing he ever wrote.
| |
The "metal" Porcupine Tree records were excellent, it was the pretentiousness of the last two albums that was awful.
| |
yea deadwing ruled. not so much FoaBP tho...that one was kinda ehhh
| |
Now they can fade away into obscurity as I've always dreamed.
I'm sure this sucks for those of you who love them though. :-(
| |
don't care for PT or his solo work anymore so couldn't really care less
| |
and the edges of snox's apathy keep getting sharper
| |
FoaBP is one of my favourite albums ever what is everyone talking about
| |
never was a huge fan of PT but I jam Deadwing every now and then
| |
damn. good for him though
| |
Heard of these guys but never checked them out. What are their best? And what style is this most like?
| |
i'll be jamming whatever he releases either way
| |
fuck
| |
I think he would do a great job film scoring
hope he doesnt get stuck with a shitty movie
| |
This just means he'll have more time for Storm Corrosion!!!!
| |
I like Porcupine Tree, but The Incident wasn't great, and his solo stuff is awesome, so I'm okay
with this.
But really...is anybody surprised? PT hasn't done anything since The Incident and Steven has been
making solo albums...I just assumed they were on hiatus anyways.

Like...modern prog rock. The earlier stuff is a lot more experimental, the later stuff is more
rock-ish. Check out the album In Absentia if you're interested in them
| |
Damn it's not surprising but it's still not good to hear. I hope this doesn't lead to an eventual break up, the words he chooses always make it seem as if this is a possibility. SW's really relishing his solo work, which is great as well I guess, looking forward to a possible movie score and more storm corrosion, etc. but his solo albums needed more spark imo. Hey, he could do a movie score with PT.
| |
I would watch any film Steven Wilson did the music for.
| |
looks like the rest of the band is going bankrupt
| |
lol @ terrible solo albums
| |
not terrible news considering PT has been steadily declining. TI and FOABP were just meh
| |
FUCK
| |
Gonna jam all PT albums in tribute
| |
Have no fear, he's such a workaholic that the hiatus will last no longer than 5 months...
| |
:DDDD

I still like Fear but yeah it definitely seemed like a decline...the only song I really like from The
Incident is Time Flies. Then again, i've never actually sat down and listened to the whole thing
start to finish..
Have no fear, he's such a workaholic that the hiatus will last no longer than 5 months...
But they haven' done anything in like 4 years...
| |
Think the ratings for the PT albums are about right - Both the 'bookend albums' are alright but everything in between is better, including FoaBP.
| |
Bummer
| |
Hope they come back
| |
he didn't do an interview with ultimate guitar on this subject...they're just quoting a different interview that he did. this isn't some big announcement....he was asked about PT and he gave the same answer he always gives "no plans yet". I wouldn't put much stock in the 1,5,10 year comment. I think he was just trying to emphasize the fact that he literally has no plans.
| |
New PT now pls Steven you buffoon. Thank you
| |
Good riddance
| |
Still haven't checked out his solo stuff. Only PT and Blackfield
| |
"I wouldn't put much stock in the 1,5,10 year comment."
I don't know, it seems like a typical comment in this situation but SW's really been enjoying his solo work. Well it's all good as long as the band doesn't break up and SW churns out more music. He does need a break though
| |
Hopes - deleted
| |
well god damn it
seeing him tomorrow though
| |
i had the same reaction to the news of Mars Volta breaking up..
they're last album sucked so i don't really care at this point
| |
Bah, saw this coming tho. While Porcupine Tree has always struck me as an almost solo Wilson show, I did love the instrumental prowess coming from the three others on PT albums, and miss that sound. I don't hear a huge difference between solo and PT with him, though I guess I understand the hiatus if he plans on scoring shit now.
| |
That's a shame. A big part of the material made by this band was very good. Never liked the incident
| |
I think a lot of people saw 'The Incident' as a slightly lacklustre album in comparison to the other PT albums and I think if Porcupine Tree were to release an album soon, it would probably not be another Stupid Dream or In Absentia if Steve's heart wasn't fully in it or if it wasn't where he is at at the moment. In the meantime, I'm glad he's got a lot more artistic freedom and is doing what he wants musically and I know that if/when Porcupine Tree release another album, it'll be when Steve is ready so the music won't suffer at all.
| |
No arrogance at all.
| |
Wilson is so pretentious. He loves his own music so much and it bugs me how smug he is about it.
| |
I hope Gavin Harrison forms some super group now... maybe with... I don't even know
| |
I'm a big PT fan, but I don't there's any harm in Wilson focusing on his solo project. With each of his solo albums he's proved that there aren't any boundaries to what he can achieve. Disagree if you like, but I actually prefer his solos stuff at the moment to anything else he's involved with.
| |
He's saying stuff like "When you can't do more in a project you move on" but it's apparent that the other guys in the band were expecting to keep making music and he is the one who kinda just walked out.
So basically he just abandoned people that were to some extent financially reliant on him. Gavin could probably find something else to do, but the other two guys' income will drop dramatically, I expect.
| |
this sucks
| |
I'm so over this band.
| |
People seem to forget how much influence Barbieri/Edwin/Harrison have on PT's music. I love the solo stuff, but there is NOTHING like good ol' PT
| |
^this so much
| |
I'm so over this band. [2]
Except Fear of a Blank Planet. That will live on in my playlist forever.
| |
solo wilson>tree anyway so meh
| |
agreed
| |
His solo stuff is terrible, just downright terrible.
| |
umm
| |
Ha, so many bad opinions in these comments
| |
gavin needs to join the SW band and then I will be ok with this
| |
Eat shit and die, Steven.
| |
Ha, so many bad opinions in these comments
Anyone that routes on his solo poop.
| |
I miss Porcupine Tree. The Incident was a pretty big letdown, mostly mediocre with only intermittent moments of what make Porcupine Tree great. The solo stuff is good, but lacks the same ability to grab me that most of the PT stuff had. It was cool that he wanted to do a 70s prog homage type of thing, but right now it's just starting to feel derivative.
| |
Yup, thats why he probably should do the movie score now.
It's interesting how this is considered news since they were pretty much on hiatus anyway
| |
guys admit ur sadness. For the first time in our lives, there is no Porcupine Tree. The future looks bleak, indeed.
| |
