Primus Album Re-release 2013-04-05 by PostMesmeric | 23 Comments | Alternative metal funk outfit Primus announced that their sophomore studio album, Sailing the Seas of Cheese, will be re-released in a deluxe edition on May 21, 2013.
The re-released version of the band’s breakthrough commercial smash will be available in two six-panel Digipak versions, each containing the full album redone in both a new stereo mix on CD and a 5.1 surround mix on Blu-ray or DVD.
The deluxe edition will also include three unreleased bonus tracks: live versions of “Those Damned Blue-Collared Tweekers” and “American Life” from the band’s 2012 “3D Tour” and a remix of “Here Come the Bastards,” by dubstep artist Bassnectar.
Bassist and vocalist Les Claypool said “Musically, it holds up incredibly well. Sonically, it holds up fairly well. There’s some old-style reverbs that are a little bit syrupy. With modern technology, we can fix some of that stuff. But we don’t want to mess with it too much, because it is what it is. We want to fatten it up a little bit.”
The original LP of Sailing the Seas of Cheese was released in 1991 and included successful singles such as “Tommy the Cat” and “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver,” along with fan favorite “Those Damned Blue-Collared Tweekers.”

Only thing that bugs me (apart from the fact I already have this album and don't really have the money to buy it again) is the dubstep remix.
| | | I'd be curious about that remix
| | | Fuck, I haven't long bought this in physical form too....
| | | Awesome sauce.
| | | I'll definitely be picking this up. I always thought the mastering on Seas of Cheese was fairly thin.
| | | Bought the frizzle fry remaster years ago. I'm glad they finally got around to this one too.
| | | Great and totally weird album.
| | | That'd be cool if they remastered "The Brown Album", too. I'd probably prefer the lo-fi garagy-ness of the original, but it'd still be interesting.
| | | best primus album
| | | Pretty slick, would like to see the next two in their discog get the treatment
| | | To everyone who's leery about the Bassnectar remix, I share your skepticism. It's not really the kind of "bass" that I expect from a Primus recording.
| | | No Michael, Frizzle Fry < this.
| | | Frizzle Fry > this [2]
| | | best primus album
Yep!
| | | dammit. now i have to re-download
| | | Eh, I still love the original mix for Frizzle Fry. This doesn't appeal to me.
| | | Sweet
| | | nobody "needs" music, still good to have it.
so yeah, why the fuck not.
| | | Frizzle Fry > this [3]
| | | Randomly just got into Primus a couple months back... got this and Pork Soda... both are pretty nuts. Great and totally weird stuff
| | | get Frizzle Fry man, it destroys
| | | I grew up in Northern Cali. Sailing the Seas of Cheese was the soundtrack to my 7th grade. Getting to see them perform it in its entirety back in '03 was epic. Stoked for the rerelease
| | | I shall cop Frizzle Fry
