Adam Duce leaves Machine Head

2013-02-22 by DatsNotDaMetulz | 17 Comments
Machine Head have announced on their Facebook page the departure of founding bassist Adam Duce, who formed the band along with Robb Flynn, Tony Costanza and Logan Mader in 1991 after Flynn's departure from Bay Area thrashers Vio-Lence. The group say the split was amicable and they will continue work on their follow up to 2011's "Unto the Locust" as a 3 piece, which is set to be released in late 2013.

Wonder who the next bassist'll be anyway. Friends have suggested the guy from Bleeding Through, Dan Kenny, Rex Brown and John Campbell.

It's a pretty big deal, Duce is one of the core members of the band and the backing vocalist. He also wrote a good deal of the band's music too.

I don't think it will be as bad as it seems as rob flynn and phil demmel write pretty much everything they do these days.

It's a shame, Duce's bass sounds fantastic on 'Burn my Eyes' and even better on 'The More things change'. He was a huge part of the band but everyone knows MH is Robb's baby.

The band have changed somewhat since guitarist Phil Demmel has had input (the last two releases) maybe that has something to do with it, or maybe Adam just just wants to do something different now.

Good luck to both parties, MH will bounce back as strong as always.

That's good because The Blackening and Unto the Locust are their strongest albums.

Also you could defo hear the bass in most Machine Head releases (look at songs in the first four albums in particular - nu metal especially always has audible bass, as does groove metal (it's kind of a big characteristic of it)). They'll have to get a pretty decent bassist to fill the void, it's not like they're some straight up thrash band.

I remember that Duce and Flynn were having problems and had to have some form of counselling over it. Either tempers have flared up again and they're being polite (more likely) or he genuinely isn't happy with the Demmel/Flynn partnership.

I strongly disagree!

I much prefer the first three are all far better than the last two. Hell I prefer the first five to the last two (Blackening is fine, Unto the Locust has its moments).

Also the bass was definitely more prominent on earlier releases. The groooove!
