I just don't think SHE is the person to attack necessarily. I think she started out reasonably genuine but her image has become more and more contrived (although it still kind of works in a way), and so has her music (to a slightly lesser extent), but there are still artists out there who are just as popular as she is, releasing stuff that's way less genuine and more filled with complete bullshit. Nicki Minaj is an obvious example.

I actually think the mindset that "Lady Gaga is a product designed to sell to consumers. Everything about her is superficial." is almost entirely wrong, because I think her first album is actually a genuine attempt at being good, simple, fun pop music. I personally liked it a lot. Her latest album might be straying from that a bit, but I think it's crazy to act like her whole moment in the spotlight exists only because she's some "product" that's been designed in any way.

I think I sort of concede to that idea in my post. I think she started out as a fun pop star but has been turned into something much less genuine. My point is that even at this point she's much more talented than plenty of other people doing the same kind of thing, so I don't get why she should be targeted.

I don't fault Lady Gaga for being a successful capitalist - she's very outspoken with what she wants out of the music industry, but his quote is still perfect (as it doesn't attack her, but the public's reaction to her music). It's nice to hear Jack White say that, cause he's so right and cause thousands of people listen to him, but yeah it's nothing personal against Gaga; it's more a statement on the current state of popular music and its brainless fans.

I see you are capable of reading about which bands I rate. That's nice. But you might want to make some kind of point when you do.

Whether or not you think the music I like sucks has nothing to do with the integrity of Lady Gaga. And you may notice that I've rated her, as well, and if I recall, I didn't rate her negatively. She's skilled, and she has ability underneath it all, she's better than a lot of pop, but that doesn't make her the creative force people act like she is.

Both artists are great. Born This Way was one of my favorite pop albums of last year (the Special Edition is more cohesive than the regular one), and I've always been a fan of Jack. Yes, Jack is better, but they're both pushing boundaries in their respective genres. I really don't get the backlash toward BTW, everyone else says "she hit her peak with The Fame/The Fame Monster", that's bullshit, BTW is way more interesting and more musically complex. The Fame is good, but some of its songs are pretty trite ("Bad Romance" is overplayed as fuck, give me "Judas" over that any day of the week).

So basically all he said is that she is fake, and people are having raging tantrums.
