New The Ocean LP & DVD

2012-11-23 by BloodandRainbows | 45 Comments
Post-metal band The Ocean (formerly The Ocean Collective) are set to release two new
projects next spring. A triple-DVD entitled Collective Oblivion will drop in
February, followed by an LP in May. Frontman Robin Staps has hinted that it may be a double-
album like the band's 2007 effort Precambrian.

The band also announced that they will be playing the main stage at Holland's Roadburn
Festival on April 20.

how is converge irrelevant..just because you don't like them?

they're arguably the most well-known band in metalcore

Indeed, I don't like Converge. However, you inferred the wrong idea. Me criticizing Converge and calling them overrated (which is true) is just as arrogant as this guy saying that The Ocean are 'irrelevant' because he dislikes 2 of their albums. I was making fun of him but it's okay, there's no need to pist-off the converge audience. I don't want to be Jane Doe'd ;]

Fuck yes. I loved both Helio and Anthropocentric even if very few others did, so I'm stoked for this. Probably one of the best live bands I've ever seen too. Definitely check them out if you get the chance.

Granted, Helio and Anthropocentric were not up to par compared to Fluxion and Precambrian. Nevertheless, I can't wait for this to drop. Been waiting for The Ocean to release a new album forever. With Cult of Luna and The Ocean releasing albums next year, 2013 could be a great year for post metal.

explain the correlation between these "opinions" as you called em. and as soon as you're done my application for your nobel should be completed. (ps. pissed, jesus, sputnik)

"band is irrelevant"

then go bother people talking about your relevant bands. converge are awesome, the ocean are too. helio had some growing pains but anthro picked it back up and this should be really cool shit.

"Yes, your opinion is true. But no, Converge are not overrated. They are ultimately the biggest pioneers of metalcore and have influenced the scene more than you can imagine. You may not dig them, but to call them overrated simply because you don't like them as much as others makes me want to poke you in the eyes."

This is just an opinion too for the most part. It can be argued that Converge are not the biggest pioneers of metalcore and that they are overrated. To each his own. This thread is about The Ocean. Let's stick to talking about them please and not fucking Converge

That's still your opinion Mikey. Every hardcore/metalcore band is not going to say they were influenced by Converge. Some will say Botch, Zao, Poison the Well etc. Some people do think Converge is overrated. It's not a fact that they are/aren't overrated, it's just a matter of opinion. Shit, half of the sputnik userbase either likes Converge or thinks they are overrated.

I didn't say that it's opinion that they are one of the most influential bands on the scene. There is no denying they are one of the most influential metalcore bands ever. I said that it's opinion on whether they are overrated or not. You can argue that just about any band is overrated or underrateed

overrated is a term that's been bastardized by hipsters and anti-trendies. I find that the term shouldn't be used to describe something subjective such as music, but more for things that can be backed up by proof.

eg: "you're overrating the armour on that tank, it's going to get destroyed in minutes!"

However, the definition of the word is pretty vague, so go as you wish.

Helio is worth buying for The Origins duo alone. The rest is good but not great. I think they'll keep getting better with the stable lineup.

"I honestly don't see what was so bad about Helio. I mean, if it was the more subdued style, then it's ridiculous to hate on it. The album was well-written and sounded great. And yeah, it's a double album, so Anthro was the more metal second CD. Well, kinda of a double album. "

I don't either. Helio had some killer tracks like Swallowed by the Earth and The Origin of Species. The only awful song on that album was Ptolemy Was Wrong. I think a lot of the hate comes from Helio being there first album that used primarily clean vocals.

Well for one the clean vocals on Heliocentric are laughably bad. And the songs are like a light version of their previous material. Anthro is better though.
