New Birds of Tokyo EP 2012-09-26 by KerfuffleinaHussle | 16 Comments | According to their website, the popular five-piece rock act from Perth, Birds of Tokyo, will
be releasing their new EP, 'This Fire,' as a CD, vinyl, and download this October 5th. The
EP is said to mark a drastic change in the band's sound; "We really made a conscious choice
to just put a match to everything we've done before," explains guitarist Adam Sparks, "so
that we could create something that felt fresh and exciting to us."
The article goes on: "This time around the hard-edged guitars give way to a more textured
approach in counterpoint with hazier keyboard atmospheric," perhaps thanks to the addition
of a new member, namely keyboardist Glenn Sarangapany. The EP will feature tracks such as
the title track 'This Fire' and 'Boy.' The EP is also said to act as a "taster" for the next
full Birds of Tokyo album, to be released sometime in early 2013. The tracks on the EP are
lifted directly from this release.

I was wondering what Ian Kenny was up to.

I think there's a new Karnivool release planned next year too. They've been playing a bunch of new
material live. In all honesty, 'New AM' was the only new 'Vool song that piqued my curiosity, whereas
the new Birds songs sounded really great.

No, the EP comes out this year and is a selection of songs taken from a full album that will be released next year. The next Karnivool album should be released next year too. So actually, you have to wait about 9 days for this EP to be released (October 5th), and then about 5 months for the March 2013 Birds album, and then another few months for a Karnivool album. That's a lot of Ian Kenny in a pretty small space of time so quit yer complainin'.
