Foiled Beatles reunion in '81? 2006-02-25 by Stormy Smiley Face | 13 Comments | Last month, a former staffer of Capitol Records made the claim that because of Paul McCartney's 1979 contract with CBS, it would have made it possible for him to record with John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison as the fab four themselves. After many failed attempts over a course of years, it appeared that both John Lennon, and Paul McCartney were starting to consider the option of re-uniting. Most noticeable of this is when John Lennon submitted a deposition against the show, Beatlemania, stating he wanted to stage a Beatles concert. Any chance of this was put to a halt when John Lennon was murdered in 1981 by Mark David Chapman.

That's interesting. The title of the article is a bit silly though, because not only did John die in 1980, but we didn't wait until now to say "damn, John died, no Beatles reunion now!"
| | | oh damn... the beatles together again...
...doesnt really bother me, i wasnt born till 87, but how awesome would it be if the beatles came back together, and if john never got shot, and we had a cure for georges cancer...
...but if they did get back together, there probably would of been no real Paul McCartney and Wings.
| | | and also its good these bands stop when they do. its a shame it didnt happen, but they all went a bit insane nearing the end of the beatles careers anyways.
| | | Knowing what we know today, it wouldn't have lasted any longer than a couple of years considering George's cancer. But that would have been awesome.
| | | Only if Lennon didnt say those words...
"were more popular than jesus!"
| | | I've always wondered what would have happened has John Lennon not been shot.
One thing is for sure though, we were robbed of an incredible amount of music.
[sigh]
December 8th is always the saddest day of the year for me.
| | | I have always thought that The Beatles would have reunited eventually if John hadn't been shot. John was shot when everything was going great for him. He had just emerged from being a family man and was back to recording great new material, he had shed his drug addictions, and he seemed to be very happy. It seems like he and Paul had also finally stopped fighting. So yeah, I think there was a good chance they might have reunited. The only problem would have been that John was kind of pissed at George at that time because George had written an autobiography and hadn't even mentioned John it in. But I think that they would have gotten over that quickly and would have reunited sometime in the eighties. But Chapman had to ruin it all for us. I like to wonder about what John would have been doing the last 25 years if he hadn't been shot.

George didnt die until 2001, and they would have reunited sometime in the 80's most likely, and it would have been huge. It would have been great if the beatles went to SNL when they offered them money as a joke to reunite on the show.
But anyways this news is retarded because John Lennon was shot in 1980.
| | | Also, it's really great the beatles broke up when they did. Because their legacy is perfect, they had minimal failures (The Magical Mystery Tour is the only one I can think off, but even that was good in color), Unlike the Stones who althought are still regarded quit highly have alot of bad albums under there belt.
| | | MMT is great. Some of the Beatles best work imo. But it also has a little filler like Your Mother Should Know. But still a great album.
| | | that's amazing. i feel like crying or something. i wish that someone killed chapman beforehand now more than ever.
| | | The Beatles are the greatest thing to happen to music. Ever. And a tragic part of that appeal is the end to the story (I.e. never getting back together after a bitter break up.). Seeing the Beatles reunite would have been awesome, but it might have turned out short-lived or bitter sweet or whatever. Chapman's an ass. Let's lynch him.
| | | thats sad to hear but interesting.
HE DIED IN 1980 NOT 81!!!
