I cannot fathom how immensely disappointed i am with this lineup, the one thing i was looking forward to next year.
|
| |
What the fuck? Is this the lineup from middle school or something?
|
| |
I'm guessing for every 1 person disappointed, about 20 will be ecstatic. This will sell out quickly.
|
| |
There is an unbelievable amount of garbage here.
|
| |
Yeah, not too keen. A few I'd like to see, but none I'd be too enthusiastic over.
|
| |
Thinking I might use the money I would have spent on Weezer tickets instead.
|
| |
"There is an unbelievable amount of garbage here"
Nah, just once... They're listed 7th.
|
| |
Hahaha, didn't even see that one. My instincts tell me that Garbage isn't a bad band...please tell me so.
|
| |
What middle school class put this line-up together?
|
| |
Wow The Larry Arms have to play with a lot of shit bands
|
| |

Not a great lineup. Besides Tomahawk, of course.
|
| |
Chippy, you've never heard of Garbage?
Shirley Manson, Butch Vig... 'Only Happy When It Rains', 'Stupid Girl', 'Cherry Lips'.
|
| |
Hey Butkuiss; Tomahawk has had a big week. Kicked the winning goal on Friday & now announced for Soundwave! ;-)
|
| |
Hey Davey, listen to these. It'd be a travesty if you didn't like them.

| |
You guys obviously are hipsters who listen to shit nobody likes I can name at least 7 good bands on this list
|
| |
I counted exactly seven, but like half of them pretty much suck now
And 7 is not a high number for a festival
|
| |
"You guys obviously are hipsters who listen to shit nobody likes I can name at least 7 good bands on this list"
Pretty much every band on here is popular. Popular = / = good.
We're not hipsters, you're just ignorant.
|
| |
im stoked on this.. blink is finally coming back. I dont give a fuck what all the close minded metal heads say... THIS IS AWESOME
|
| |
Shai Hulud kinda makes up for about 95% of this terrible lineup and Blink makes up the rest with nostalgia.
|
| |
"I dont give a fuck what all the close minded metal heads say"
I don't even listen to metal anymore you fuck
|
| |
Yes Metallica! Yes Kyuss Lives! ....... ok when's the second announcement
|
| |
im more so talking about metalheads who dont listen to anything else but metal.
treb u got good taste so i think its impossible for you to ever be a metalhead...
More to the point. im only going to SW to see one band. Get there at 7pm. leave at 9pm. Sounds good.
|
| |
What's wrong with metal, have you even heard Townsend?
|
| |
vision of disorder. nice. if they play all of imprint
|
| |
yeah.... this lineup just plain sucks.
|
| |
yeh i know townsend and i appreciate his work. Hes good. To me metal is uber boring and repetitive. to each their own
|
| |
Kyuss Lives, Red Fang, Offspring and Blink 182 are cool. Red Fang are the best of this line-up at the moment. And also, are Metallica playing every festival in the world ? They're everywhere.
|
| |
Looks pretty fun to be honest, the fan base for the headliners are huge, so there should be a pretty good atmosphere. Plus it will definitely sell out
|
| |
m more so talking about metalheads who dont listen to anything else but metal.
treb u got good taste so i think its impossible for you to ever be a metalhead...
hahahahahahaha
|
| |
It gets worse and worse as you go down the list
|
| |
yeh fuck it I'll go
|
| |
About 4 good bands in this lineup. Very bad
|
| |
So this is the first year that I haven't wanted to go to either major festival. Disappointing. And BDO arent even doing sideshows which pisses me off. I'll try and catch The Wonder Years
|
| |
Fucking terrible lineup.
|
| |
Shai Hulud and Motion City would be about the only thing interesting on here to me.
|
| |
Shame that the new MCS album kinda sucked though.
|
| |
Glad I'm not the only one who's dissapointed in the line-up. My facebook is full of people shitting themselves over the lineup. Metallica are the only band on there that I'd enjoy seeing. I think that they were always going to find it hard to match last years line-up, it had everything. This seems to go from world famous to bands I don't think would sell out 500 capacity venues. I'll be pissed if second announce is great and tickets are gone though. Will hold off for Coheed and Cambria and Brand New headline tours (hopefully) next year.
|
| |
SOUNDWAVE ACKNOWLEDGES
|
| |
Love it. A Perfect Circle is going to be amazing
|
| |
I wish maynard would fuck off and make that new APC album
|
| |
Lol, lineup is shit, but I'm pleased because I wasn't going to go anyway... Last year's Brisbane Soundwave was the worst fucking thing ever
|
| |
Get ready to rock out like it is 1998
|
| |
fucking terrible lineup, so disappointed
|
| |
Think I'll actually go to BDO instead . The Lawrence Arms, Lucero, Metallica, Blink, Kyuss and Shai Hulud are the only band I'd really like to see. Don't think it's worth the ridiculous price tag this year.
|
| |
The Offspring, WOOF
|
| |
OMG STONE SOUR!!!!
|
| |
Dragonforce AND Linkin Park?!?! I laughed out loud.
|
| |
Motion City Soundtrack, The Wonder Years, Metallica YES the rest of it complete crap. It will take the next line-up announcement to be amazing for me to want to go.
|
| |
How is Duff Mckagan's Loaded still going
|
| |
The line-ups not as good as this years but i'll still go. The Wonder Years, Such Gold, Deaf Havana,
While She Sleeps and Memphis May Fire will get me there. I'm also curious about Shai Hulud, Madball,
and PTV considering their recent album. Plus the nostalgia from seeing Linkin Park, Sum 41 and Blink.
Hoping theres more good bands on the second announcement.
"Tomahawk has had a big week. Kicked the winning goal on Friday & now announced for Soundwave!"
Haha yes!
|
| |
yeah like 3-4 good/decent bands. shitsux
|
| |
Since when did Soundwave become Big Day Out?
|
| |
Ghost
m/
but fuck festivals that aren't on cruise ships
|
| |
Fuck, you guys are a miserable bunch of saggy old cocks, aren't you? There are 15 bands on this list that I'm absolutely stoked to get the chance to see. There are a few I don't like, but I'm not going to whinge about them because the world doesn't revolve around me.
Get your heads out your own asses. The majority of users on this site are just pathetic.
|
| |
Who wants first shot at the self-righteous 13 year old with two comments? ^^
|
| |
Me. :D
Ha, thinking you'll see 15 bands at a festival?
I squeezed in absolutely all I could for Soundwave this year, left sets early and halfway through, and still only saw 14 bands. And for Devin Townsend and SoaD I was sprawled on the floor and didn't enjoy them at all.
Also soundwave is horrid for clashes.
But the other bands were awesome so idgaf.
|
| |
Seriously blowing my $150 just for Lawrence Arms and Wonder Years.
|
| |
Tix are $190 this year bro. : [
|
| |
"I squeezed in absolutely all I could for Soundwave this year, left sets early and halfway through, and still only saw 14 bands. And for Devin Townsend and SoaD I was sprawled on the floor and didn't enjoy them at all.

So did I, man. I got there for the first bands playing, even saw that one band play a half-Pinkerton set. I went too hard at Gojira and got a headache, Meshuggah sounded weak as hell, Mastodon were all right, saw a bit of Lostprophets and Alter Bridge , then the smallest stage at the back, also leaving sets early. Dillinger were far and away the best band of the day (on the seventh stage!) and maybe the best I'd ever seen. Slipknot was like watching a really shitty sitcom, and System... I don't even need to say it. A quarter of the way through, I was just wishing it would be over...
|
| |
Soundwave please, you're better than Warped.
|
| |
Lineup looks really fun and at the end of the day that's how a festival should be. I used to love so many of the bands when I was younger!
|
| |
Puzzles, you just picked the wrong bands clearly. Although Mastodon were fucking amazing at their sidewave. You should've checked out Letlive, just as good as Dillinger were. But yeah, the fest has gotten weaker each year for a while. Year before this I ditched it entirely.
|
| |
I don't even count 7 currently good bands.
|
| |
2010 was the best year hands down. Isis were a great cool down act after the insanity of Gallows.
|
| |
I missed Isis in 2010, never forgiving myself.
Also, 2012 was the best yet, in my opinion. Letlive, Thursday, Kvelertak, Dillinger (all four of which put on some of the most passionate shows I've ever seen) along with Meshuggah, Gojira, Times of Grace, Bad Religion, Devin, and a slew of others I caught.
|
| |
Soundwave 2011 was the shit, man. One Day As A Lion, Queens of the Stone Age, Gaslight Anthem, Social Distortion, Slayer, Primus, Slash. Iron Maiden are legends but I found their set insanely boring.
|
| |
Circa Survive, Thursday, Dillinger and Letlive one after the other was enough to make my day and money well and legs chafe in the rain for SW Brisbane this year.
SOAD and Slipknot look like they'd be funner if you were in the crowd rather then the grandstand like I was for part of both sets..
|
| |
I was kicking myself that I didn't got to Soundwave 2010 because they had ISIS and it was probably my last chance to ever see them.
That was my main reasoning for going as they're one of my favourite bands (username gives it away), but don't feel too bad, as the setlist was very limited. Only a few songs off Wavering Radiant.
|
| |
You should've checked out Letlive, just as good as Dillinger were.
Holy shit. Letlive was my favourite of the whole day. Aalon Butler is completely banana sandwich.
|
| |
"Ha, thinking you'll see 15 bands at a festival?"
Depends on how many headliners you see (as they take up more time). Last year, I did see 15 full sets & 3 half sets (so let's say the equivalent of 16 full sets). See my list for proof: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=268913&listid=96955
|
| |
After such a good lineup last year, this is quite disappointing. I personally think Soundwave SHOULD be mostly metal. There's a heap of other festivals for other music lovers.
Ghost, APC, tomahawk & Kyuss lives should be alright tho.
Blink, Metallica & Linkin Park are some very... very lame headliners.
|
| |
There's plenty to get me there.
But having said that, given APC are playing that's all i need. I've been waiting to see them for years. So excited.
|
| |
See, puzzles I dont like a single one of those bands and thus I thought it looked crap.
And I agree that it should be more metal and hardcore, considering it started out as the alternative festival but now it's just the 'alternative' that costs more than BDO
|
| |
Hey lifeAs a chipmunk fuck you im not ignorant i listen to all kinds of bands not just one genre i was just saying this lineup isnt the worst lineup ive seen for a festival.
|
| |
That line-up is awful! It's like a 13 year old living in 2005 wrote this line up out, put it in a time capsule, then some douchebag with a chinstrap that's wearing a bandana as a headband dug it up and made it happen.
|
| |
"Shai Hulud kinda makes up for about 95% of this terrible lineup."
Except even Shai Hulud isn't really Shai Hulud anymore. Who's even in that band now? Like, who is their vocalist? I know it's not Mike anymore and I know Chadball isn't coming back.
|
| |
lol so bad
|
| |
danko jones /m
|
| |
So much hate
|
| |
soundwave 2010 has been the only one i've been to, and it was the shit. sunny day real estate, rx bandits, the get up kids, faith no more, isis, glassjaw, the weakerthans (even though their sound was pretty poor), and a bunch i'm forgetting. shit was off the hook. but yeah doesn't look like this festival will be recovering any time soon
|
| |
"considering it started out as the alternative festival"
Technically, the 1st ever headliner for the festival was... (insert drum-roll here)... Good Charlotte.
AJ has said a few times that this year (the 10th anniversary) was always going to be a little different... & it will/should return to normal as of 2014.
|
| |
"I personally think Soundwave SHOULD be mostly metal. There's a heap of other festivals for other music lovers. "
i agree, i would be stoked if blink would have been playing at BDO instead and i wouldnt have to hear a single second of metal again in my life. IM COOL WITH THAT
|
| |
The problem with that theory is BDO will only include bigger pop-punk (& alt-rock for that matter) bands like Blink & maybe Offspring.
One of the great things about Soundwave is that it gives an opportunity for smaller pop-punk & alt-rock bands to even tour here. It probably wouldn't be viable for bands like Conditions & Deaf Havana to tour here otherwise.
If you go the way you two are speaking, the 2 festival line-ups will genuinely be recycled from 2-3 years earlier.
|
| |
I'm fine with smaller alt rock and pop punk bands playing. Just I'd like a proper mixture. These days it's increasingly the lighter side of heavy and only as alternative as the radio is willing to play.
I thought the first headliner was an Aussie band? CBf wikiing cos I'm at uni but yeah. I dunno, I dislike this mentality of topping themselves with the size of the headliners each year.
|
| |
Usually I stick away from the headliners anyway (Faith No More is the only one I have ever seen at SW). I really couldn't give a toss what many people are there for, which band gets the most money, etc... As long as I have 12-17 bands I want to see, then I'm fine with it.
Young Guns are another great example. They were terrific on Counter Revolution (which was basically a mini Soundwave). Then they tried to headline tour here & sold a paltry amount of tickets. So if not for a festival taking them in, then they won't be back again unless they make it big. BDO wouldn't even know who they are, so if SW goes all metal, then we can all do the math.
|
| |
AJ spent too much fucking money on Metallica and LP and couldn't afford the rest of the lineup. Should've thrown some of that money at Refused, At The Drive-In, The Gaslight Anthem, Against Me! and American Nightmare.
|
| |
^
I don't even know how Such Gold got on the lineup. I mean, seriously, they don't even have a Wikipedia page.
|
| |
wait, which Ghost is playing? The Swedish metallers or the Japanese goth-rockers?
|
| |
Wait...not having a wiki page is a preclusion from playing? Since when? Such Gold are one of the better acts too
|
| |
I think he was joking Tom.
"Should've thrown some of that money at Refused, At The Drive-In, The Gaslight Anthem, Against Me! and American Nightmare."
Reading between the lines, AJ has headline tours in store for us from Gaslight Anthem & Refused.
|
| |
Probably the worst lineup since it started. A Lawrence Arms/Lucero sideshow would go down well though.
|
| |
Really disappointed in this lineup. Soundwave started off so good years ago and it just seems to be headed towards the same direction as Big Day Out. The whole idea is that BDO no longer has good bands and Soundwave was the alternative for punk/metal. All this lineup says is the promoter wants to get one up on Big Day Out (which they already had last year anyway). I mean come on linkin park/blink/paramore as main headliners? Maybe I'm getting old and bitter. Last year was the least good out of all that I'd been to but still saw some great bands. This year will be my first year not going if it doesnt massively improve.
|
| |
Well that's awkward
|
| |
Yeah, AJ's confirmed a Refused headliner will happen this year.
Gaslight Anthem will probs be on the second announcement.
|
| |
hmm not a good lineup as far as i'm concerned. im interested in under ten bands on this list. oh well, good thing i dont live in aus. or worse, NZ! (they get fuck all! well, except for Deviant's late night techno sets)
|
| |
oh wait Refused? take back what i said, the festival is 100% worth it now.
|
| |
No, he meant refused will do a headline tour (Soundwave is also an ordinary tour company)
|
| |
http://www.atpfestival.com/events/australia2013.php
NOW THIS IS A FESTIVAL
|
| |
Ugh, seriously? I wait 7 years for Godspeed and when they finally come I'll be in Tanzania. Worst.
|
| |
ATP looks so fucking epic. I can't wait for it. Godspeed will be incredible.
|
| |
I can't believe People are complaining... I hate to use the word, but I have a feeling the second lineup will be less "mainstream"
|
| |
why does ATP have to be in Melbourne, ergh
And WhiteNoise...why wouldn't we complain if theres no bands we like? That's a stupid thing to say. I just hate that all but one of the rumored bands I was interested in didn't show.
|
| |
I dunno, maybe just let the People who are excited be happy? Also you only have yourself to blame for believing rumours...
|
| |
...so I shouldn't be sad there's no festival I want Togo to? And no one should ever say anything negative?
I didn't believe them, just hoped they were true. Typically they're fairly well founded since a good portion of the rumored bands ARE on the list (even blink who have been rumored every year for god knows how long haha). I just hope the rest do tour soon
|
| |
oh man ATP looks awesome
|
| |
Yeah that's fair enough man. I reckon Refused will definitely be on the second lineup... Who were you hoping for?
|
| |
Deftones, High on Fire, Wonder Years (who are on so Whoo), ETID (who are at BDO without a sideshow which pisses me off), The Chariot, Dir En Grey, United Nations, Propaghandi, Lagwagon, Glassjaw, The Dear Hunter, 10 Years. And when I say rumours I mean hinted at by AJ
|
| |
Refused wont be on the second lineup. They're doing their own headline tour some time this year.
Deftones, Glassjaw, The Dear Hunter and Propaghandi would be epic. I'm hoping Animals as Leaders sneak on, as well.
North, you should definitely travel down here for ATP. It's going to be amazing.
|
| |
Ghost and APC :D Everything else is a resounding meh
|
| |
Billy Talent are all but officially confirmed for 2nd announcement.
|
| |
All of you should support this cause: http://www.facebook.com/BringOneDirectionToSoundwave2013
|
| |
"Refused wont be on the second lineup. They're doing their own headline tour some time this year."
AJ also said that Metallica wouldn't play, he loves to lead people in different directions.
Holy shit I forgot about Deftones, that would be incredible.
|
| |
Real leak or fake?
https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/208361_4171148472910_352220537_n.jpg
|
| |
I'd say fake just for At The Drive Ins placing. They're not the biggest of the bands but they have so much buzz around them that I'd argue it'd be higher.
But aside from Megadeath who I highly doubt...and tbh Green Day would be the bigger band anyway...the rest are highly likely
|
| |
@fb
Soundwave Festival: Surprised you need to ask. megadeth billed over Green Day. Derp!
|
| |
I hope Motion City Soundtrack plays a side show, the rest of the lineup doesn't interest me, but I can see why others would go.
|
| |
Fake... Green Day would be above Megadeth AND thats the font for their previous album, not the font used for the upcoming trilogy. Yeah I'm a bit of a dork.
|
| |
Apparently Gallows have joined Billy talent in self-confirming that they are on the 2nd announcement.
|
| |
the dear hunter. fuck yes!!!
|
| |
Amity Affliction and Bullet for my Valentine now confirmed
|
| |
2nd Announcement:
Slayer
Cypress Hill
Bullet For My Valentine
Bring Me the Horizon
Billy Talent
Mindless Self Indulgence
The Amity Affliction
Sick Of It All
The Blackout
Fucked Up
Gallows
This Is Hell
Cerebral Ballzy
Polar Bear Club
The Early November
The Dear Hunter
Blood On the Dancefloor
Verses the World
Sylosis
Confession
|
| |
fucked up and polar bear club is p legit
|
| |
Second announcement holds even less interest for me than first. I mean, I'd check out a few bands there if I was going, but nothing that makes me want to buy a ticket.
|
| |
the lawrence arms playing = good lineup
|
| |
not for 200 bucks it aint. hopin they do sideshows
|
| |
They are doing one with Lucero and two bands from the second lineup apparently. Hoping Polar Bear Club is one of them
|
| |
polar bear club + fucked up + larry arms would be the best fuckin thing i ever seen
|
| |
Second announcement has a couple of good bands but overall still shit
|
| |
I know, how do these festivals get away with not having 30 good bands... That way, the cool people can only see 12 of them & then whinge that they miss out on the other 18.
But this way, they can whinge that it's overall still shit. So either way, the whingers win.
I think they call this a whinge-whinge situation!
|
| |
There'd better be a decent sideshow in Perth, preferably involving Cerebral Ballzy, Sick of it All, The Lawrence Arms or Garbage.
|
| |
Haha, I'm sorry I don't like more of these bands?
Hell, I'm okay with most a festival being shit, but at least give me a days worth of good.
|
| |
Sick Of It All
Fucked Up
Polar Bear Club
good bands on the second lineup
Blink-182
Kyuss Lives
Lawrence Arms
Shai Halud
Lucero
bands i'd see on the first
don't think it's worth $200
|
| |
and knowing how SW timetables look, they'll mostly clash with each other
yeah, nah
|
| |
Sidewaves yo
|
| |
JTFU, I reckon you have a great chance of a Lawrence Arms/Lucero/Polar Bear Club/Sick Of It All sideshow. Almost certain you'll get at least 3 of them.
|
| |
Cypress Hill hahahaha awesome
|
| |
In Perth? Don't think so man.
|
| |
Oh yeah, forgot where you are.
|
| |
Seeing The Dear Hunter will be awesome, other than them and Billy Talent there's not all that much.
Can still easily make a day out of it, though. I can't wait.
|
| |
You tell 'em Billy.
|
| |
Damn right i'll tell them. I'm more excited about 2013's compared to 2012's lineup
|
| |
missing a pinch of A7X eh?
|
| |
