In b4 all the hate. Spencer sounds fucking awesome imho. His screams are always gonna sound a little weird but they're not nearly as hollow any more and his cleans sound fantastic, but I've always enjoyed his singing. Song is pretty sick, hope the others have more melodies and leads but I'll always like this stuff.
|
| |
shit
|
| |
I like this
Better than the old stuff
|
| |
shittier
|
| |
Yeah, the first thing I noticed was Spencer's improved vocals which should make the album a lot more easy on the ears. Not to say he's a bad vocalist, but his voice just gets irritating after a while.
|
| |
shittiest
|
| |
what's after shittiest
|
| |
my ass
|
| |
damn that's pretty shitty
|
| |
YESSSSSSS this is so awesome Spencer has finally realized his potential the vocals are epic
|
| |
then ur ass
|
| |
My pants cannot contain what has just occured
|
| |
Also, judging by the ending it looks like they are gonna have the ambient sections between songs like the last album
|
| |
IMO the song is too all over the place to be great
|
| |
Pretty good. No doubt Spencer is finally starting to sound good. Still needs work in both areas clean and harsh but this is already much more listenable vocally compared to the debut.
|
| |
more like "Make Total Shit"
|
| |
Album name gets me every time.
Song was cool.
|
| |
Awesome stuff. Album's going to be SO awesome.
|
| |
Vox are still meh but the instrumental is gooder.
|
| |
vocals ruin it for me still
|
| |
sounds great to me. cant wait for the album
|
| |
Screams have improved but cleans have regressed. He cleans make him sound more whiny
|
| |
Song is okay. May grow on me with more listens
|
| |
"cleans have regressed"
wat
|
| |
Good
|
| |
Either the production is making things sounds better or Spencer has improved vastly.
It's not amazing but the vox around 3:15 are sick.
|
| |
Say what you want about the vocals, at least they're not the same shit that 90% of bands in the genre put out. I really enjoy them.
|
| |
I was completely indifferent to this release.
Now I'm extremely excited. Song was a million times better than I anticipated.
|
| |
I fucking love this. I'm glad they turned the vocals down a bit, it makes it a bit more 'credible', I suppose. Not like they're out for radio play and the mainstream audience. Spencer's vocals are so much better, and the instrumentals are surprisingly more complex than the last record. Everything's more 'balanced'. I love the harmonies, too. Fucking psyched for the new release, never though I would be but there you go.
|
| |
Wouldn't go THAT far Puzzles. I mean yeah for Periphery it was pretty dec, let's not lose our shit over it.
|
| |
Meh
|
| |
You don't have to lose your shit, but I probably will. That's the beauty of opinion and free will.
|
| |
Cool.
|
| |
shitty cleans are shitty. his voice isn't bad, but they just don't fit the song.
|
| |
Not saying I'm not looking forward to it, the Icarus EP showed me that Periphery might actually manage to outlive the Djent hole they reside in. And this is further proof.
If the rest of the album is of a similar quality then we might have a winner
|
| |
Spencer continues to improve, which is impressive, but whats more impressive is that the songwriting is stronger and more improved too. The album should be a good listen.
|
| |
it's not even fair how much better this is in every department than anything from the debut
|
| |
The vocals just aren't powerful. Spencer's performance needs to pack more PUNCH!
|
| |
dont care for this band much anymore, drums are sick though
|
| |
This Time It's Personal.
But yeah vocals sounded better.
|
| |
This Time It's Personal
Sounds like something they slap on remakes of classic movies that get shown on ABC Family.
|
| |
Maybe the album will debut on ABC family.
|
| |
I'm not that keen on this but I still have high hopes for the album.
|
| |
That was pretty cool!
|
| |
protest the periphery. [2]
Yeah, this is significantly better than their first album. But it really does bother me how much this sounds like PTH.
|
| |
Rody Walker up in this bitch.
|
| |
i tend to not listen to preview tracks more than once (unless they amazing from first listen). this seemed pretty good though. vox were decent. i don't know if i'd say they are improved, but they didn't piss me off like some of the tracks on the debut. looking forward to this. no matter what, this will at least be a fun one to talk about on this site.
|
| |
if you think this sounds like protest the hero, you are stupid. it sounds like periphery.
|
| |
and it sounds awesome.
|
| |
it's ok but those vox are still grating as fuck
|
| |
You hate Periphery?
My, you must be e an expert on real metal.
|
| |
Dig this band. Awesome song, ridiculous performances all around!
And THAT MIX!
|
| |
"You hate Periphery?
My, you must be e an expert on real metal."
nope, just on whats good
|
| |
5 classic
Cryptopsy None So Vile
Death Symbolic
Edge Of Sanity Crimson
Meshuggah Nothing
Meshuggah Nothing [Re-release]
Opeth Still Life
Incredible Opeth album, easily their second best (though many claim otherwise). Very good story and
all of the songs are memorable. The Moor and White Cluster open and close the album brilliantly.
Opeth My Arms, Your Hearse
A dark, dense and well varied album. The best Opeth ever sounded.
Strapping Young Lad City
Who knew such massiveness came from Canada!? This is one of the heaviest albums I've EVER listened
to at a young age.
and he's right
|
| |
man I gotta change some of those sound offs lolol
|
| |
good song
|
| |
this was just really good...like everything about it. This CD is going to be a very welcome addition
|
| |
The vocals have definitely improved
|
| |
that was pretty good. and yeah the vox do sound a bit better.
lol i didn't realize that the name of the album had a "this time it's personal" on the end.
|
| |
I don't really like it. Screams are good though. They sound like Gus from volumes at times but I didn't like the cleans. Can someone tell me why people love this band but hate all other "djenty" stuff?
|
| |
This is pretty good. Basically the same sound as old Periphery only everything just sounds a little better. I'm still hoping to hear some real progression from them though. Album will be 3.5-4 at this rate.
|
| |
"Can someone tell me why people love this band but hate all other "djenty" stuff?"
This song isn't a great example but I find Periphery's instrumentals to be much more interesting than other bands like this. I like their guitar leads and melodies a lot, they have some really good melodic tracks and moments... other bands in this area seem to be lacking that.
And shocking as this seems to some people, some of us really do love Spencer's vocal performance.
|
| |
song was decent
|
| |
Yeah the (clean) vocals have taken a decidedly PTH-esque slant. Instrumentally, this is as technical and kickass as I expected it to be.
|
| |
solid, although a bit weird in the middle of the song.
|
| |
THE TIME HAS COME FOR ALL TO SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
that note was lazy.
the instrumentals are awesome, but those vocals. it always sounds like spencer is trying to talk about something he
thinks is really important but nobody pays attention cause of the instrumentals
|
| |
what a fucking dumb album title.
|
| |
good shit
|
| |
Not gonna lie...the harsh vocals have gotten worse for me....
Otherwise, the song is enjoyable. But I don't think it compares to anything from the first album really.
|
| |
awesome song
|
| |
MetallicOpeth knows whats up.
if you think this sounds like protest the hero, you are stupid. it sounds like periphery.
The vocals, primarily, sound derivative of PTH (and very different from those on the self-titled). The instrumentals sound like the same shitty Periphery formula as always, if not more toned down.
I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not yet.
I don't know why everyone worships Periphery as djent forerunners, since they're one of the shittiest bands in the subgenre.
|
| |
But it's probably because people know of Periphery, but don't know of stuff like Sam Locke and David Maxim Micic.
|
| |
what a fucking *funny* album title.
fixed that for you
|
| |
so since you dont like periphery, other people are wrong for liking them? man, you must be really important.
|
| |
Someone saying they're shitty MUST automatically make it so. Now that I've been informed I hate them. I better go listen to some good bands that that guy listed.
*Listens to David Maxim Micic*
NO.
|
| |
Anyone know if they're releasing an instrumental version of this album?
|
| |
Pretty beast stuff.
|
| |
Spencer is getting a lot better
|
| |
Kinda strange how one of the main avenues I end up using to discover new music is people saying how shitty some band is, naming off other bands that are not as popular, (which correlates with them being better for some reason), I end up listening and like it and now I have more music lol
|
| |
that's seriously the album title? lawl
|
| |
Bands like Protest the Hero, Veil of Maya, and Periphery are what's wrong with metal today.
Unimaginative, boring, stale, and emotionless regressions of metal from years past.
Song is a 1/5
|
| |
Yeah, Spencer sounds much better on this song than on anything off their debut.
|
| |
"Anyone know if they're releasing an instrumental version of this album?"
I remember them posting something on facebook telling people to stop asking about it, because they weren't doing it this time. Oh well.
|
| |
"Bands like Protest the Hero, Veil of Maya, and Periphery are what's wrong with metal today."
Lol. They're totally what's wrong with metal today.
This song is awesome. It got me more excited for the album than I already was! It seems Spencer's cleans AND screams both improved substantially. I'm one of the few that enjoyed his vocals on their self titled album, though.
|
| |
'Bands like Protest the Hero, Veil of Maya, and Periphery are what's wrong with metal today.
Unimaginative, boring, stale, and emotionless regressions of metal from years past.'
You obviously dont know much about metal then.
|
| |
i enjoyed that i have to admit
|
| |
Anyone know if they're releasing an instrumental version of this album?
"I remember them posting something on facebook telling people to stop asking about it, because they weren't doing it this time. Oh well."
Maybe they should take that as a hint that many people enjoy their music sans their god awful "vocalist."
Big Gulps, eh? Welp, see ya later Periphery.
|
| |
Periphery likes their vocalist, and they're gonna keep making music with him no matter how many so-called "fans" feel like they're entitled to periphery's music the way they want it. get over it, spencer is here to stay and he's a great vocalist. if you want instrumental djent, there's no short supply of it.
|
| |
Great song, I think the cleans will grow on me once the album comes out. Spencer's screams have improved alot I must say.
|
| |
"if you want instrumental djent, there's no short supply of it."
Sadly
Anyway, song was good, really liked the vocals. But the instrumentals weren't that impressive.
|
| |
I'm sure they'll do an instrumental version of this album anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem for those who don't like the vocals.
|
| |
god this is sick
|
| |
I just like the fact that he changed up his cleans a bit. Sounds a lot less whiny imo
|
| |
of course eveyone is judging off of one or two listens that made a comment. so nobody really knows how they feel about the song, but spencers improved vocals is most impressive
|
| |
The vocals are nice improvement
|
| |
"Fuckin people. When a band makes the same music (that got them known in the first place, that you went to a show to see) you bitch about no evolution. When a band makes drastic changes, you all bitch about it not being the same. We the people, will never be satisfied. Periphery should just quit, along with all other musicians. Shut the fuck up and get out. Go play your squier and dream of being someone."
|
| |
so since you dont like periphery, other people are wrong for liking them?
I never said that. Jesus, you'd think that when you read an opinion on a music criticism website you wouldn't have to be told that it's just one guy's thoughts.
man, you must be really important.
Recognize.
|
| |
This band is not impressive in any aspect. I hate that bands like this get so much recognition yet Uneven Structure and others hardly get any at all.
|
| |
Uneven Structure is the best album I've heard this year (though it isn't from 2012). Having said that I think this album
might be good.
|
| |
This is real good, vocals are a bit out of place here and there, but Spencer sounds pretty solid overall.
The instrumentals are sounding soooooo fucking good.
|
| |
Song is pretty good, still need to listen to their debut.
|
| |
Song is quite swell, the music has definitely stepped up and so have the harsh vocals. I hope there'll be more of the cleans found at 2:45, which are very reminiscent of the debut.
|
| |
"Make total destroy"
Wtf
|
| |
The cleans didn't sound as good as the debut. Maybe the melody wasn't as fitting for his voice, but they sounded a bit awkward and not as enjoyable this time. Riffs were crazy nice, though.
|
| |
Just too many OOO OOO's/Croning/Odd note hitting at times but the cleans are still pretty good, it just seems like Spencer tried too hard on this track because they wanted to make it a single. I imagine the rest will be a little more toned down.
|
| |
Who the fuck do they think they are now, Protest The Hero?
|
| |
Yeah, I really like this.
|
| |
Wtf is with the PtH comments? Yes some of Spencer's cleans sound A LITTLE like Rody's in this song but other than that this doesn't sound even a little bit like a PtH song. That and the comparisons to Chester and Linkin Park are weird as hell imo.
|
| |
riffery
|
| |
boring. also linkin park vocals
|
| |
Iv'e never had a problem with Spencer's vocals tbh. Track is pretty good but i'm getting a bit of a "more of the same" feel y'know?
|
| |
i like
|
| |
"Uneven Structure is the best album I've heard this year (though it isn't from 2012). Having said that I think this album
might be good."
See sspedding knows what's up.
|
| |
don't really see where all the improvement is the cleans don't sound any better a little less catchy which was disappointing and the screams just sound more layered and produced.
|
| |
Now this band just sounds like a more djent PTH.
|
| |
Comparisons aside, Protest are much more talented than Periphery.
|
| |
"Comparisons aside, Protest are much more talented than Periphery." [2]
Finally a sensible comment on this band.
|
| |
They make cooler music as well
|
| |
No, not at all. PTH shits on this band.
|
| |
That's what I was saying
|
| |
PtH is wank at times and gets monotonous
|
| |
I like wank. They could wank me off any day.
|
| |
wwoah, wwelll okkay thheen sirrr
|
| |
Last PtH album was boring as shit. I love Fortress and Kezia but they need to do something new to become interesting again.
As far as which is better, it's probably a tie for me. They're both great bands.
|
| |
I agree. Scurrilous wasn't as good because the songs weren't as interesting or varied. It was a more repetitive rehash of Fortress with weaker songwriting.
|
| |
I thought lyric wise scurrilous had excellent songwriting
|
| |
Lyrics were okay. I liked it better when Rody wasn't writing them
|
| |
It was diverse also from songs about suicide to girls to that one about a family member with cancer or something
|
| |
Agreed, despite the vocal similarity, PTH crushes this.
|
| |
good stuff
|
| |
They sound like a poppier Meshuggah with 2002 Chester Bennington. I guess they have some mainstream potential. Song is solid.
|
| |
They won't ever write another song as good as Jetpacks Was Yes
|
| |
Well they wrote Racecar so that has already been accomplished.
|
| |
clicked out right around the time the cleans kicked in
holy fuck i can't believe i used to like this band. that was horrendous.
|
| |
decided to give this a few more chances, if anything I hate it more now lol
those fucking vocals
|
| |
pretty sweet.
|
| |
Screams have improved nicely but the singing doesn't really fit with the music.
Still a really enjoyable track 3.5/5
|
| |
Pretty boring, sounds like what metalcore was doing back in 2001. Meh.
|
| |
How does it not? It's generic as shit.
|
| |
Wtf this isn't metalcore hahaha and nothing like 01 either
|
| |
never liked this band. this didnt change my mind
|
| |
Well they wrote Racecar so that has already been accomplished.
That's the worst song on their debut.
|
| |
Great song. His voice has gotten so much better
|
| |
I can really hear Rody Walker influence at moments when listening to this
|
| |
"That's the worst song on their debut."
I don't even...
|
| |
this song has grown on me. Album will own face.
|
| |
I dont get how much bitch about Spencer's voice so much but yet that disgusting whining shit from Pierce the Veil, everyone seems ok with it...
|
| |
Racecar is overrated for sure, but the worst song is either The Walk or Totla Mad.
|
| |
Or Insomnia. The first two tracks are pretty bad, album doesn't actually get good till the awesomeness that is Letter Experiment.
|
| |
sucks
|
| |
I really like Insomnia. It's a perfect mix of what the album has to offer. I never understood why some people thinks it's a bad song.
|
| |
worst songs are totla mad and ow my feelings
|
| |
Nah I like Ow my feelings. Sure it's not the best but it's better than The Walk in my opinion.
|
| |
Rules, end of.
|
| |
You guys act as if Rody Walker invented portamento.
|
| |
Yes, because portamento is what everyone was exclusively talking about.
|
| |
