Oasis accuses Green Day

2006-12-20 by tom79 | 34 Comments
Oasis' star Noel Gallagher has accused pop punk trio Green Day of "ripping off" his song "Wonderwall" for their hit "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams." It seems that Gallagher is unaware that the entirety of American Idiot was composed by an Oregon grocery store clerk in 1992. (Since "Wonderwall" was released in 1995, that means Oasis also ripped off the grocery store clerk.)

In all seriousness however, Gallagher adds:

If you listen, you'll find it is exactly the same arrangement as Wonderwall. They should have the decency to wait until I am dead (before stealing my songs). I, at least, pay the people I steal from that courtesy. They consider themselves to be - and I quote - 'a kick-ass rock 'n' roll band'. They could not be less kick-ass if they tried.

Well that's Noel for you. I know that at least the lyrics were ripped off of Here I Go Again by Whitesnake.

Does anyone care what Oasis say anymore?

The songs have completely different melodies. They follow the same song structure, but that method has been used in thousands of songs and Noel is an ass for claiming this, since it's a normal rock song structure. That and the songs sound nothing alike.

American Idiot was wrote by a Grocery Store Clerk?

So That means Green Day doesn't even write their own songs anymore? ...that's pathetic. It just makes them seem even more like the stereotypical pop group.

Boulevard obviously doesn't rip off of Wonderwall, and any sound that it may share is purely coincidental. But this is a sad moment for both bands. This Message Edited On 12.20.06

Nah, the grocery store bit was kind of a joke because of some news a month or so ago of a 30something grocery store clerk in Oregon who filed a lawsuit saying he wrote the entire AI album while he was in highschool in 1992.

Noel is an *** for claiming this

Really, for this only?

They're two completely different songs, though I'm not too fond of Green Day but...

Noel must be pretty damn slow to have just picked this up. The local radiostation played a version of the song where they linked Wonderwall and Boulevard together probably 2 years ago.

I actually just heard that last weekend when I was in a strange city and flipping through the stations. I didn't realize it was so old tho. I don't listen to the radio much. This Message Edited On 12.20.06

In news today, Noel Gallagher shot his mouth off again. In similar news, it turns out that water actually is wet! More on that after our breaking coverage on the discovery that Paris Hilton is a whore. And stay tuned for the 11 o'clock news when we give details of the shocking revelation that Stephen Colbert said something funny today.

I think there's enough sarcasm there to exterminate a cadre of cyborg ninjas that are also on fire. I had to tone it down a bit for fear of creating a good-sized earthquake in Japan.

notasnewasyouthink, I can prove it if you like.
Here's a link to a board I'm a member of. This page is about said lawsuit. http://www.offspring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22692&page=214&highlight=sued
There is a post of mine a few down from the top of this page, one or two pages after the story posted.

I'm Apathy, obviously.

It seems to me that you shouldn't be so sure of yourself. I don't care if you didn't pick up on my sarcasm. I didn't exactly use as much as the above poster, but if you didn't believe me you didn't have to act like a dolt about it.This Message Edited On 12.20.06

I'm a huge oasis fan. The song does have the same guitar riff as wonderwall but noel cant really talk. Cigarettes and Alcohol is a rip off of Get it On by T-Rex.
But long live noel and oasis for being fucking legends andjust avin itThis Message Edited On 12.21.06

Noel is always slagging off bands, nothing new. Green Day is shit anyways, commercialized pop-"punk" for the 12 year old girl.

No one takes Noel Gallagher seriously anymore. The man's about as useful as a bowl of curried chicken, and has the intellectual capacity of a hat.
And I don't even care for Green Day.
