Velvet Revolver and Pharrell?

2006-02-16 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 12 Comments
In an interview with ABC Radio, Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum elaborated on the group's proposed "new direction" for their forthcoming second album, tentatively titled 'Libertad.'

"Our first album was very aggressive and just in-your-face. and we made it very quickly," Sorum explained. "And this album we just really want to, like, you know, we want to pull it back a bit, groove a little harder, [make it] a little more danceable. We've talked about working with people like [pop superstar] Pharrell [Williams] just for the… just to check it out. I mean, it's not rock and roll, but it might be different. Who knows?! I don't know."

He also revealed details on the forthcoming debut album by all-star cover band Camp Freddy, which features Sorum, Panic Room pair Dave Navarro and Chris Chaney aswell as the Cult's Billy Morrisson and Donovan Leitch, son of '60s folk star Donovan. The group hope to release their long awaited record this summer, and have announced the addition of Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland to their ranks. The group is renouned for their revolving door of all-star guests who join them for live shows.

Interesting is a very good word for this......

I just hope that they don't put extra stuff like turntables in there.

They won't put synths in there. But it would be interesting to hear a horn section in the music.

if slash doesn't solo in this one more than he did in contraband, its gunna suck. he got kinda watered down since GnR. he was awsome back then, not that contraband is bad, but still...

yeah solos rock i listen to eruption at least 26 times a day then play it then masturbate to prints of its tablature solos are my life.

but seriously, Pharrell Williams? I doubt he can do for the Velvets what he did for Snoop, Britney and basically everyone else in pop. NERD's first record was great though. This Message Edited On 02.17.06

no, solos arent the only good thing about music, im guessing you are a noodler? the most annoying beings ever.

solos can add flavour to a song but can get boring, especially when the songs structures are all the same

I'm so relieved they are gonna try something different. I get so bored of the same old format which seems to follow most of their songs. They are great musicians but let's see them do something a bit more challenging, we know they can 'rock out' they've done it for their whole career.

If they become pop rock, i will kill scott weiland..lol. He better not change the band too much. I aggree that some of the style on contraband gets a little old.. but i still like it. And thats what i like about Velvet Revolver, cuz they are like one of the few last great rock bands still playing today. Nowadays, pretty much all you've got is emo, rap, or pop...which sucks because thats what most people like.. which is lame, cuz those types of music take little, if no talent to play.
