Or their music just fucking sucks. The fact that their singer is a douche just adds to that. Plus, as Vesper said, bands like Ash Borer and Fell Voices look just as normal and they're two of the best black metal bands in the modern scene. Also, Deafheaven looks even more "hipster" than Liturgy, but they make much better music.

i also really think a lot of hhh's theoretical shit about TRANSCENDENTAL BLACK METAL is pretty reasonable stuff that most bm fans would agree on, almost to a fault--he doesn't say anything really all that CONTROVERSIAL. i think the worst thing he does is occasionally sort of circumvent simplistic aesthetic ideas about bm in a way that makes them sound "pretentious" but the actual MANIFESTO is honestly pretty harmless stuff. he just comes up w/ silly names like THE HAPTIC VOID for simple concepts but hey
