It seems like A Lot Like Birds wants to sound A Lot Like Dance Gavin Dance.

Liked Think Dirty Out Loud, but from there on it got worse with every new song. Still gonna listen to the album though.

Plan B is definitely better than the tracks I've heard from this so far.

Kind of wish they'd have stuck with the style found on their "Tantrum" track, but this is still good.

Maybe it's just me, but I like their new songs.

Tweet for a track? I am not signing up for Twitter just to hear some indie song from some indie guys.

i've been liking all the tracks so far, though i feel like it might end up being a step down from plan b overall. i dunno why everyone's talking about it being all generic though. all of the songs they've released so far are pretty different from one another, regardless of the fact that they may be reminiscent of other bands' sounds.

This stuff isn't as good as their old stuff but it's definitely not generic garbage. If any other band put this stuff out it'd be considered pretty damn good.

Kinda surprised how much hate this got. I enjoyed it a lot. I actually am glad this doesn't sound like Plan B. That album is amazing and is what it is, I don't need to hear more Plan B.

Plan B was unique. They could have progressed without turning into a shitty dgd rehash.

Exactly what I've been saying since the first song they released.

tkxxx7, please explain to me what generic is then. are they generic because their sound is more similar to dgd than it used to be? they still sound different from like 90% of other bands in the genre. unless that's where we disagree at.

Besides Kurt being a former DGD vocalist, and Lockwood's harsh vocals sounding like a more developed style of Jon Mess, I still fail to see the similarities to DGD.

Also, drummer rules.

I really dislike the clean vocals. This will pale in comparison to Plan B.

they would sound better if they sounded more like dance gavin dance. kurt fit way better in dance gavin dance anyway and this isn't that similar to dgd

I don't get this site. You guys hate everything for some reason. This song, as well as their other songs released so far, are not generic and crappy. I enjoy them to a great degree.

bms, you're digging eleventh. Think about the first time you heard eleventh. Was it not absolutely jaw-dropping? that's what a lot of us experienced with Plan B.

Now, ALLB has moved towards a vocal-dominated, rather than instrumental-driven, post-hardcore structure. The reason Plan B was amazing was because it was instrumental-driven and incorporated violins and keyboards without sounding corny or forced. The songs released have featured nothing but vocals, over far less innovative guitars, inaudible bass, formulaic drums, and no more violins or keyboards.

Basically, it's like if Eleventh decided to drop all elements of everything besides post-hardcore. Instead of further exploring what makes them great (11th - genre synthesis, ALLB - instrumental godliness), they would be plunging into territory that has already been covered, and simply rehashing it.

Also, sputnik is heavily elitist. If someone doesn't like something, they have to voice their opinion in the most hateful way possible. Get used to it. It's better than reading Pitchfork.

Why did/do people expect this to sound like Plan B in the first place. Consider that Plan B was
written by a single person, and all of the innovation from the various instruments (violin,
keyboard, trumpet etc) was done by "guest appearances", as the band themselves stated.

Though, I do understand fans of Plan B disliking the newer style, it should have been apparent the
moment Kurt was announced as the new vocalist, that this was to be a departure of former musical
aesthetics.

I'm not sure i'd agree with the drums being 'formulaic' however. At least not on a track like
"Tantrum".

It's a shame this is getting so much hate however. Though they may have dropped to a "lesser form of
Post-Hardcore", they still do what they do remarkably well. And, I wouldn't really say this is
generic. Maybe that's just me though.

Once Kurt joined I pretty much lost hope. I can't stand his vocals.

Also, I never expected it to sound exactly the same, I was merely hoping for an expansion on the same form, while still going beyond.

@danielito19 You just Admitted to being elitist, as if its a virtue. I hope you understand the closed minded and arrogant connotations of that word. You are not better than anyone, you are a user on a sputnik forum. Get over yourself.

Formulaic drums? Do you have ears? or any knowledge of the instrument? Any validity in the rest of your statements was lost in the ridiculousness of that sentence.

What your comment should read is this "Kurt Travis joined the band, and I dont like him, so all I can allow my small mind to see is a bunch of sell outs and conformists, and im right because I listened to circle takes the square once"

danielito19

I'm sorry you interpreted it that way personperson. What I meant about losing hope when Kurt joined is that I don't like listening to him sing, and I won't be able to enjoy this album with his singing in it. I never implied that they were "sell outs and conformists," and namedropping circle takes the square doesn't make you look anything but retarded.

Also, I've listened to CTTS far more than once. But, that's beside the point.

Seeing these guys with DGD in december. It's almost counter productive. lol.

I dig ALLB slightly more though.
