New Social Distortion DVD? 2006-10-26 by Alex101 | 5 Comments | A Social Distortion fan just posted on the message board of SxDx.com expecting the band to film and release a new DVD. His post on the message board of SxDx.com is the following:
Ok... I'd like all of your opinions
I think Social D should film a new DVD for the following reasons:
1.) The one they put out looks/sounds like shit. Whoever filmed it and mixed/recorded were fucking morons.
2.) Brent Harding
3.) See #1
Social D's shows this year have become much more theatrical. Their lighting is absolutely amazing now, and with Brent Harding added and Dan McGough's settling into the group... they sound much tighter and more powerful than they ever have (in my eyes). Their setlists are cooler now, too.
I would rather watch many of the bootleg videos that were just recorded on handheld video cameras compared to the DVD many times (especially the red rocks/street scene shows) because I think even THOSE sound/look better than the "Live in Orange County". You have more of an audience sound. The DVD is very muffled and sounds like a very weak recording.
If they were to record a new DVD where they mixed in much more audience/room mics I think they would have much more of a successful DVD. Picking up the sound from the audience's vantage point instead of 95% stage mics would be much better, I believe, because you can pick up more of the best thing about a live show: the lock between the kick drum & bass. That's where all the balls comes from. I think the original DVD lacks the balls and power of a Social D show. I've seen many more live DVDs that sound wayyy better than SD's.
I can't put enough emphasis on how much better I think the band has sounded this year. How about them backing vox (thanks, Brent). And I really like the new dynamics and theatrics of the light show.
Does anyone out there agree and hope for the same thing

Neat.
| | | It would be great if they put out a new DVD. I'd buy pretty much anything by Social D.
| | | The DVD they've had out is indeed pretty bad. The audience is completely dead, there's really no atmosphere and their set is a little pathetic.

So would I, as much as I'm really a Social Distortion fan. In fact, I don't even have any of their DVDs, just at lease every one of their albums. I can't wait to buy their new album, which comes out next year in 2007. For the rumored new DVD, I'd say they should put out one with their music videos, just like Green Day and The Offspring did. This Message Edited On 10.27.06
| | | I'd love to see a new live DVD. Live in Orange County left out a LOT of great tunes that I'd love to see. They've also written some new songs so it would be great to see them incorporated into a new video. I doubt it will happen in the near future though.
