Most parts were fairly cheesy and not up-to-par with their other stuff. Still, The Origin was amazing and Firmament was excellent.

Let's not get TOO excited just yet. This one is still said to have its share of softer, acoustic songs. My views on Helio have changed greatly since I first heard it. Started off as a 4. I now have it at 3.

Helio is disappointing because it came after Precambrian, which is a 5 for me. Main disappointment is the lack of aggression and the new guy's annoying singing, which is the opposite of Precambrian (that it built up to really aggressive climaxes between the pretty melodic parts and the vocals are dynamic, thanks to the guests, and powerful).

i think so too, actually. this song sounds like firmament but just not as good. it is fairly repetitive and the structure resembles more of a metalcore song than post metal. the main riff is good the first few times, but i'm kind of bored of it after hearing the song even once. don't get me wrong i loved the ocean on precambrian (obviously; everyone did) and i even liked heliocentric quite a lot, but i have to admit that this band is going downhill...

What the fuck is with the vocalist. I have to admit Helio was just decent at best, just. But the singing and growls are what turned me off from it a bit.
On Aeolian (my second fav) the growls were absolutely crushing throughout the whole album, very deep and bellowing.
This guy.....just can't fucking growl at all, it makes The Ocean lose a HUGE dynamic in their sound.

Even though they used to be a collective, it didn't detract and it flowed nicely. The new singer is the problem, for sure.
The leader of the band, "the drummer" is still very much a beast. He just does everything so perfectly that I don't know how he directed Helio into what it became.
Heliocentric also got lots of attention though.
