Panic! to cover Queen

2006-10-04 by canadianterrorist666 | 36 Comments
Panic! At The Disco plan to cover Queen on their forthcoming US tour.

The band are planning a version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" for their next set of US dates, to join versions of Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight Tonight" and Radiohead's "Karma Police" that they already play, reports NME.com.

"'Bohemian Rhapsody' is one of the hardest [songs] to cover, and we've been working on it," guitarist Ryan Ross told MTV.

"The idea of it kind of blows my mind though, I mean, it would be all of us, plus our touring keyboard player, singing the harmonies. That seems like it would be a lot of fun."

The band are set to play a US arena tour, beginning on November 7 in Sunrise, Florida.

"We're going to build a house of mirrors, with ramps for us to come down," said Ross of thier new production. "In the front of the stage, underneath our keyboard and cello players, we're going to have animal cages, and we're going to put dancers painted to look like lions in there. I'm talking about full-body paint, with teeth and a tail."

The band are also keen to perform under a large tent last used by 80s rock veterans Motley Crue in 2005. The guitarist said: "We spoke to this guy about getting the tent, but then he told us that Mötley Crüe might use it again on some upcoming tour, so we'll have to see. We might have to go without a tent."

panic doing bo-rap? i LOVE it!!! not only because it will piss off my "new wave of emo"-hating queen fan mate, but also because it could actually work. these guys have the theatrics (musically) for it to really fit with what they do. as long as they teach that tone-deaf guitarist to get his backing vocals sounding less like a dying animal, should be interesting!

No one should attempt to cover Bohemian Rhapsody. Not even Queen (unless Freddie Mercury comes back from the dead)

Bit risky for Panic! to be taking on such a well-known and classic song. We'll see how it goes...

The singer has the worst voice ever, even when he's just talking he sounds really really effeminate. Ironically, Freddie Mercury actually WAS gay but still had a powerful singing voice.

Bohemian Rhapsody seems like it would be one of the hardest songs to cover. That said, it could really go either way. It suck ass, or if they practiced their asses off it could be pretty rad.

Well, there goes another great song ruined by a terrible band. They do really sound like they're working hard though. Maybe they'll pull it off. As soon as hell freezes over.

This one of those songs that should never be covered, but they all eventually do.

examples of other songs like this are 'smells like teen spirit', Under The Bridge', 'That'll be the day'.

but I think they all have

I don't know, from what I heard of them live on TV, they do suck tremendously on their own songs. "I write sins, not tragedies" comes off half decent as album version, but the vocals and all are terrible live. If they can not perform their own material right live, would it make sense to cover such a complex/sophisticated song that BR is (at least in parts)?

You can't whine bohemian raphsody, only one man could ever sing it, and hes dead. Just goes to show you what happens when you do actually play that song.
