Just discovered these guys about a month ago. Instantly fell in love; haven't heard AATG yet, but The Mantle is POSSIBLY the best Prog Metal album i've heard since Blackwater Park. What reviews?

First review was taken down probably because it wasn't legit and the second one is a bit biased toward the band so I would really take those with a grain of salt. Not saying they won't be correct, just that it's still a bit early and I don't know if promos have had the chance to work their course with reviewers.

first one was posted on the official Facebook by the bandmembers themselves, I don't see how it can't be legit.

promos have been out for a few weeks now I think.

I'll formulate my opinion when I have the album in my hands, hard to trust reviews that were published over a month before the release date.

yeah I agree. the second review is obviously biased, but I'm also biased too. hell, I have the Agalloch logo tattooed on my forearm.

Review was too drawn out and humorous to read fully but a Paysage d'Hiver reference is always good.

Hello sir ! Well, you're right, these are only my first thoughts - as an Agalloch album is not easy to digest ! Well, it's obviously the weakest of the four, in my opinion. I don't mean that it isn't good - it's awesome - but it doesn't contain those magical "catchy" melodies that remained hidden in your mind for hours, like, you know, "Not Unlike the Waves" or "...And the Great Cold Death of the Earth...", just to name a few. We totally escape the post rock dimension of "Ashes", to enter a progressive, yet harsch album. The beginning of "Into the Painted Grey" is so black metalish ! Their most violent work. All the songs are good, but the structures are not as captivating as before. Of course, the mood is great, and considering all the fanboys here in last.fm, I'm sure everybody is going to yell : "Masterpiece". I will just say that you have to listen to it a lot before making your final judgement. And yes, it's very very good, but it's more a return than a progression.

Namedropping Paysage, Nagelfar, and Bethlehem all in the same sentence means this album could not be anything short of mind-blowing.
