New Deftones interview

SPIN Magazine has posted a new interview with Deftones frontman Chino Moreno. In it he speaks about their new, as-yet-untitled upcoming record, the status of Deftones bassist Chi Cheng (who has been in a coma since November 2008), and Eros, the currently-shelved Deftones record.

I want both "eros" and this new album, I was really lookin forward to their darker side as Chino puts it...

I agree, they should release 'eros' when Chi gets better, hopefully very soon.

Agreed, and hopefully they'll add more Frank Delgado because I really have no idea what he does in the band.

Frank rules he does all the ambient shit live and on record, keyboards, occasional turntable on old stuff

I dunno, he could easily do a lot more in my opinion. Anything he does now might as well just be programmed.

Guys, it isn't going to sound like any of them. If anything, he's just saying that it's going to be as diverse and have a similar mood as White Pony. Every album sounds different.
Frank does a lot of effects, such as the bubble and water sounds on Digital Bath and the crickets on Beware. He adds so much to the atmosphere.

Delgado is a lot more prominent live Bloc

I still hear him on the albums, don't get me wrong. But what he does could be expanded much more.

I have a feeling there won't be too much water on this album...

I think he serves the band well, just throwing in some ambient vibes in the background. It's a nice contrast to the 'heaviness', if he was any more involved it'd make everything sound messy

but there's not a minute on this record that feels like it doesn't need to be there.

Good, so not a repeat of SNW then?

Yeah, I can't wait. But I have to. Because Deftones always make me wait. Then again, I compare Deftones to an orgasm. The longer you hold off, the better it is.

At least that's what I have to tell myself about Deftones, otherwise I would go insane waiting for a new album every four to five years.
