Metacritic does a half-assed job of compiling scores from the critics' remarks and reviews per album, though, so I take all of this with a big ol grain of salt...
|
| |
not a bad list. there's some good albums here
|
| |
Weird list. I don't like it.
|
| |
"Metacritic does a half-assed job of compiling scores from the critics' remarks and reviews per album, though, so I take all of this with a big ol grain of salt..."
Hey at least they do a better job than Rotten Tomatoes does with movies. That site calls a positive review 100% and a negative review 0% when they tally. I think metacritic at least assesses realistic percentages based on the original reviewer's own rating system.
|
| |
i love metacritic it's how i found shugo tokumaru, burial, the bug, the field
lotsa good shit tbh
|
| |
how is metacritic even credible when they dont even keep track of a lot of bands. kinda funny how a lot of these so called best of the decade albums have rather low user ratings.
|
| |
Metacritic is ok, but yea this list is weird. Alot of the albums seem very random, and they're ones that I've heard no buzz about at all.
|
| |
"Alot of the albums seem very random, and they're ones that I've heard no buzz about at all."
bad thing?
idk i like metacritic's best-of's, it's usually a combination of the hipster garabe i love and a lot of weird stuff that i wouldnt pay attention to normally...that i still love (especially world music shit)
|
| |
yeah, generally if metacritic doesn't have a band or album in their database, it's because no one gives a shit about it (i.e., they don't have enough credible reviews tabulated, as lewis said)
|
| |
fuck you guys, spoon rules >: (
|
| |
i dont know man theyre like good songwriters, musicians, hook writers etc but just
god i cant listen to them they are SO BORING and i feel like nothing sets them apart
|
| |
would it be terrible to say I haven't heard any of those top 20 albums?
|
| |
you definitely should
|
| |
that's exactly how i feel about animal collective ironically robertson
i dk, i listened to gimme fiction at a very formative time of my life and that has maybe my favorite song ever (the beast and dragon, adored), and ga ga ga ga ga just blew my head off right before i went to college
|
| |
you really feel like nothing sets ac apart? hmmmmm
|
| |
spoon is pretty great
|
| |
Metacritic is handy, but some of the albums missing are mind-boggling. I think I checked my last 10 reviewed albums the other week & only 4 were on there.
|
| |
More amazing is if you do a search on Thrice. Wow... Who'd have known that Thrice had only recorded 2 albums!!!
|
| |
Brit Daniels is the f'in man and they're drummer is the funniest guy to watch play live.
|
| |
"More amazing is if you do a search on Thrice. Wow... Who'd have known that Thrice had only recorded 2 albums!!!"
Thrice doesn't have a huge blogosphere following, and seeing as Meta generally handles major prints & internet-zines, makes sense.
...fix it ;)
|
| |
nothing sets ac apart in my opinion except they're ability to make experimental music that is incredibly hard for me to listen to
|
| |
I like the best artists list. a lot.
|
| |
i like metacritic for movies
don't really care about music
|
| |

This is true, which is why I don't rely on any of these consensus-compilation sites in any shape or form...
|
| |
Metacritic are handy in a way that no music site on the internet is perfect. Why do people have such high expectations from these lists? This list doesn't have this, it has too much that. Not everyone has the same opinion as everyone else. SHOCKING DEVELOPMENTS.
Overall the list is pretty good.
|
| |
two albums by the streets and they aren't even that incredible. wow.
|
| |
that sucks
go sigur ros!!!!!!!!!!
|
| |
"Metacritic have listed their list"
Excellent vocabulary.
|
| |
I follow Metacritic on a regular basis -- I prefer a consensus rather than the opinion of a particular reviewer -- so no surprises here.

or i mean having you're own opinion would be cool
|
| |
well i think he's talking about BEFORE he gets the album, ya?
|
| |
consensus is a terrible thing to go on
it's better to base a decision on a single person you share similar taste with than following the majority vote which is normally wrong cos faggotry
|
| |
or you could just use it as a similar tool to a single reviewer. Metacritic is simply another means of finding new music. I don't use it for anything else really (I prefer Yahoo for movies, along with some review sites), but it gives a general idea of a critical consensus, which doesn't mean shit really because they gave new Do Make a 73 and it's my favourite of the year.
|
| |
i listen to artists based on their last fm picture not on critical reception
|
| |
kane do you need a hand or are you about to come

Well, I agree to some extent, some albums I like have received little to no recognition by music critics, and some albums I do not like at all have received too much critic praise. Like tbhoy said, Metacritic is just another means of finding new music, particularly that that generates interest among entertainment journalists, but it is by no means the ultimate music directory.

MADVILLAIN!!!!!!!!
|
| |
Elephant ftw.
|
| |
people shouldn't take metacritc TOO seriously.
|
| |
No Radiohead? Suprising.
|
| |
It's criminal how little respect the White Stripes get here
|
| |
^true
|
| |
white stripes are meh
|
| |
yay spoon
|
| |
Nice to see the Hold Steady and Drive By Truckers get some love.
|
| |
just terrible, metacritic...
|
| |
@cfbassist
CHOCOLATE!!!
|
| |
yeah lol at double streets album.
elephant... was OK for me. some good songs...
|
| |
do you know how some people ya know in life are so about one band? and how like, everytime you listen to that band, you just get visions of that douche in your head, and it just kinda makes the band hard to listen to? well, thats how the white stripes are for me. i dont mind them, i dont dislike them. hell, i even enjoy them from time to time. but their music triggers the memory of douchebags and just makes me want to rage.
|
| |
i didnt even read that my eyes slid over it it was like a word salad
|

same can be said for wiggers.
|
| |
outkast even being in that list insults me but TWICE... yikes! none of these bands particularly do it for me, and i dont think many of them get good reviews either
|
| |
oh wait, ive read the smallprint...
"Albums released between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2009 and having 7 or more reviews in Metacritic’s database were eligible for the above list."
therefore, basing their judgements on mainstream music only, and not the better stuff (which let's be honest, sure isn't mainstream and far less heard of)
|
| |
HOW IS METACRITIC CREDIBLE WHEN THEY DONT EVEN HAVE CIRCLE TAKES THE SQUARE, KAYO DOT, BRAND NEW, AND MEWITHOUTYOU IN THEIR TOP LIST
THEY SUCK UGH
v
|
| |
Based on scores, Sleater-Kinney should be the best band of the decade. They have the highest mean score.
