Coheed without Cambria?

2006-08-03 by Damrod EMERITUS | 23 Comments
After Coheed and Cambria canceled all European tour dates in July, a new reason has surfaced for fans to worry about the future of the band. Apparently two band members won't attend the upcoming tour.

Alternative Press Magazine reported that two band members won't be part of the upcoming US and European tour dates. A statement on the bands website states that bassist Michael Todd and drummer Josh Eppard will be replaced temporarily. Todd will be replaced by Matt Williams, who played together with singer Claudio Sanchez in a band called Jumblehead. Ex-Samiam drummer MP will take the seat behind the drums.

"We'll discuss their future at a later date, but right now, all we want to do is to get out and play for our fans," Sanchez stated on the band page. "Travis (Stever, guitar) and I are excited to share the stage with Matt and MP, because they add a new flavor to the songs and it makes performing them even more fun."

If the line up change is permanently, or what reasons there are for the change in the first place was not mentioned. If you consider that the reason for the tour cancelation was "personal matters", it might be that there were fights within the band.

I already knew of this. It won't affect the overall awesomeness of C&C, but I'm still saddened to see this. They'll probably come back however.

"it won't affect the overall awesomeness on C&C" .....??!! try picturing and coheed song without josh eppard's drumming.....he's got such an amazing and unique style...this had better not be permanent...ill cut out my pancreas and frame it if it is.

What is with all of these awesome drummers not touring with their bands? Is this some sort of fad, like being bi-polar?

I like Coheed's bassist because he plays almost like he's trying to imitate Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. Watching him play live is really weird because it looks like he's slapping every other note and overextending his reach to make it look like the songs are harder to play than they really are. But whatever, he still had some good fills on the first and most recent albums, hope he stays.

I worship Coheed & Cambria but i must admit their drumming and bass skills are the only thing the band needed to improve on, there aren't too many bass fills in coheeds songs and the drumming has almost always been minimum, change might be good. Still, if Micheal and Todd are replaced it'll be sad news, but Todd might be leaving for a short while to promote his side act Weerd Science, maybe they are changing their lineup for the new albums whenever those come out. they'll never officially break up, Claudio is way too committed to finishing the story, a band like this with a concept of this magnitude especially from a musical standpoint would never give up mid projectThis Message Edited On 08.04.06

Big deal. Eppard and Todd have all said from day one they never gave a f*ck about the
whole stupid story behind their albums, and Coheed's last album was mainly atrocious
anyways. Stevers and Claudio have always been the driving force behind C&C so
getting a better rhythm section would be interesting.

As for the comment on Todd and Eppard's playing, I disagree. Their styles do fit
Coheed quite well... it's not all about the tech. Listen to the mid-song jam on
"Everything Evil" from Live At La Zona and tell me they don't have talent. This Message Edited On 08.04.06

i don't care much for coheed. The only thing that sucks, is that bands go through this cycle too often. But for C&C whatever happens..happens

If the title were correct, then that would mean that the story that all of their albums follow would be finished :o

there is no way coheed will be the same if josh and mic leave. i have liked this band for years and i cant picture them playin with any other bassist or drummer. i thought josh was alright but i deff think mic is nasty and his fills are sick. if they are gone for good they will never be the same
