"It is hoped that the Beatles reprints will help sway the rest of the year to more yield more desirable results."
Why would I want to go out and buy another copy of the White Album? I'm also wondering how simply re-releasing one band's albums would create a visible effect on the slumping market, Beetles or not.

the record industries got themselves into this mess, so I really have no empathy.

Just wait until Creed's 'Full Circle' drops at the end of the month, this album is gonna be huuuuuuuge. I predict at least 1.5 million copies sold during the first week. That should cure some ills.
Creed is back!

It's obvious that the record industry will probably never get even close to it's old luster. The day of diamond albums is done in my opinion. And I'm so ok with that.

Anyone heard if indie album sales decreased as well? Lately it's been majors taking the dive but indies holding steady in sales.
|
| |
i certainly hope the indies r holding steady...
|
| |
Do album sales count Itunes, napster and all that? If not, there you go
|
| |
No...
and I buy CDs.
|
| |
It's so much more fulfilling to go to a record shop and buy actual CD's. It really is.
|
| |
So really there's probably hardly a drop in music sales, just cd sales...
|
| |
They really gotta start factoring in the digital sales as well, seeing as that's the new medium. Seems like they really got a tough time accepting that. Despite being okay with the industry under-going change, there was something about the magic of going to a music store, picking out something totally random and finding a wicked score.
|
| |
and yet the prices of cds keep going up... tsk tsk
|
| |
I'm happy that the corporate fat cats' wallets are thinning. It's not their art anyway. However, I really do feel for the artists who's art is being stolen. I think instead of buying music from music chains (Best Buy, Wal-Mart, K-MART, Coconuts, FYE et cetera) that we should be given the option to purchase it directly from the artists themselves. In a perfect world, this scenario would prosper. Fuck "their" record sales.
|
| |
Just wrote a paper on the 'new' digital music revolution (cheap, high-quality recording equipment), doing a research project on it, basically covering how it liberates artists, promotes creativity, and shafts greedy labels. I fucking love college sometimes.
And btw, if anyone hasn't read this/heard of Steve Albini, READ:

Steve Albini, eh?
Chevelle producer at one point.

ahahahahahaah
|
| |
Tell me about it, I work in HMV
|
| |
if cds were 5 or 7, or even 10 bucks, I'd never download another album for the rest of my life.
|
| |
^ditto.
Search through bands' pages to find preorders, those are usually really cheap if they're not on a major label. I got Strung Out's "Agents of the Underground" (autographed), "Prototypes and Painkillers", and a random window decal for 11 bucks plus shipping. That's like 35 songs
|
| |
I agree with derek. I have a pretty sick collection of almost 750 discs now and it would be so much easier for people to have an actual collection if they didnt need to shell out 50 bones for 2 or 3 cds.
I just found Tupacalypse now for $30 at HMV?

Yeah, CDs are just too fucking expensive. Also, they're talking about album sales - even with digital sales there's going to be a drop. With digital sales comes the habit of picking out only a few songs from each album.
|
| |
I hate the idea of just picking out the tracks that immediately click, downloading them, and forgetting the rest of an album.
If you're trying an artists new material, you should stick with it, not just the singles.
In that respect, downloading seems stupid and lazy
|
| |
Agreed completely, especially considering how much better and more nuanced albums are when taken as a whole (especially if there's a concept). At least, for non-commercialized bands (commercialized as in shooting for singles and radio play, i.e. Daughtry, etc etc).
|
| |
well if you get the whole album at once by downloading, then that's not really a problem
|
| |
Buying CDs is such an experience that I'm willing to spend a few extra bucks. And when I like a song or two from a band, I almost always buy the whole album it's on.
|
| |
I agree completely Asiatic, but it doesn't change the facts.
