Guns N Roses Sued For Sampling

2009-10-06 by PuddlesPuddles | 24 Comments
Reuters reports that two independent record labels are suing Guns N' Roses and Universal Music Group due to copyright violations on their latest album Chinese Democracy.

British label 'Independiente' and U.S. arm of label 'Domino Recording Company' filed the lawsuit on Friday accusing Axl Rose of using portions of German electronic musician Ulrich Schnauss' songs without permission.
The songs are titled "Wherever You Are" and "A Strangely Isolated Place" and are accused of being used for Guns N' Roses new song "Riad N' the Bedouins". The record labels are looking for $1 million in damages.

From what I've been hearing, it looks an easy case for the record labels. It sucks too, after all that time and money put in they get sued for copyright violation in the end.

The album was pretty good, I just wish Slash were in the band. Its just not the same band.

Agreed with Nagarok. The band died when Axl became a greedy tycoon and pushed everything that made the band away.

He can afford to be sued anyway.

He should have never taken the name over. All he has done (and will probably continue to do) is ruin the legacy.

It's such a shame too, they were awesome when Slash, Duff, and the guys were in the band.

I think that is almost too fitting. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy.

That's the problem. Since most of Chinese was around for like, more than a decade, how could they really say which one came first?

The biggest problem is that why were these guys stealing music when they're supposedly Catholics? Oh smooth move guys, it's really Christ-like to steal music!

Why does anybody steal anything in our society when our culture tells us not to? Had to throw that out there, I'm stuck in philosophy class.

Lots of reasons. Survival, to make money, obsession and being bored with normal routine...

This Guns N Roses song was around during the 90's...I guess some part of it was sampled that they never played live.

We all know the reason why people steal guys okay? Don't be ridiculous. We do it because we are a fallen race of sinners. That's why the only way we can fight the temptation to sin is by putting our full faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I know you guys will probably all disagree but c'mon guys give it a chance at least. Just something that I'm throwing out there for you to think about I'm not preaching or anything to you but just think about it, for you, not for me.

You're on the wrong website man. I don't disagree with you, but evangelicism doesn't really have a place in music discussion.

Not surprised that no one knows who Ulrich Schnauss is. Hes a great electronic/ambient artist. People need to listen to Far Away Trains Passing By
