I know the band said they weren't happy with where they were going musically with some of the singles from a few years back, but this is such a boring and safe direction that seems to be constructed entirely to keep the djent kids happy. Both this and Synthwave Vegan are a total snooze unfortunately, and it's a waste to not have any cleans, given the singer's strong abilities with them.
Bring back interesting songwriting! In their single Outrun, the heavy parts hit so much harder because of the contrast and variety of musical ideas within it, whereas this never seems to go anywhere.

I mean, I enjoyed Matriarch even though the vocals were a little iffy at times, and I was digging the direction they were going in with False Idol— the vocals felt a lot more refined and it had some cool riffs and heavy parts, but with lots of melodic elements to keep it interesting. This just feels like going backwards.
(Note, I do like Periphery a lot, so that's why I was kinda into the direction these guys were going in)
