Damn, what a bummer that it ended like a bad relationship. With a phone call... I'd be pissed, too. Just as sad to read he didn't contribute to Absent Light. It's one of my favourite albums and my favourite of theirs by far. Hope he's doing better now and maybe start something new. I'm sure lots of people would look forward to that.

I read this when it was posted the other and I've been listening to Mirrors and Controller on repeat since then. RIP to one of the best metalcore line-ups of all time.

Damn. I've been defending Absent Light for years with how matured I thought Karl's lyricism had become. It's super disappointing to know this wasn't the case..

Definitely the best way this could have gone, even if it is just a facebook post. I would often wonder if anything would be said about his departure or if there was any chance of seeing a Controller X tour. And while there is bad blood that rose from Jeese's return; I wouldn't be surprised if this at least puts some closure with him and Ryan.

Apparently, referenced from a comment, Jerry Roush from Glass Cloud had a similar experience after Joshua Travis left to reorganize a lineup for Emmure.

Fuck man.

@NewBallistics

I feel you there. I hope he makes more music soon, maybe even revive Solace. Their one album was excellent and very Misery Signals.

I'm already in a sappy mood and you have to bring up the Glass Cloud situation. Overloading on feels here.

Around the time of Absent Light a divide started to grow between Karl and the rest of the band. He felt like he was cut out essentially and thrown away in favor of bringing Jesse back.

I mean Of Malice is dope as shit but Karl´s lyrics and voice are miles ahead from anything Jesse did/sung

Wow. That's a damn shame.

@nikk, Jesse and Ryan already wrote some of Mirrors's lyrics by the time Jesse left

I'm pretty sure the new album will suck

It will be interesting to see how they reconcile their more techy cerebral style with the more heartfelt hc flavour that Jesse brings

you mean like how they literally did that in Of Malice?

It completely blows me away when people compare Of Malice and Controller, like they're even remotely in the same stratosphere of quality. Nostalgia blinds.

Both are good. Their entire discography is top shelf metalcore. Why do we keep arguing which is better? It doesn't matter.

I'm just trying to understand how anyone can think they are equally good. No ill will to you if you think that though, I just think that's a pretty crazy opinion to have unless it's purely nostalgia-driven.

I like Controller best, but I have both Controller and Malice 5'd because they're both amazing

haha fair enough though Malice bores me to tears. I find it so cheesy, I just don't get why it's held up so highly though I get why it was a big deal in 2004. Honestly I can't stand Jesse... I'm crossing my fingers that he has evolved as a singer/lyricist sufficiently to not make this band tank. I'm cautiously optimistic to give this dude another shot.

@Relinquished: i am aware of this but I was referring to Controller on which if im not mistaken was 50/50 writing between ryan and karl, i also cannot stand Jesse´s screams sometimes.

Edit: also that explains why I never clicked with mirrors as much as the others then
