Great track, the first Insomnium song where I actually like the clean vocals (although they are still too layered and emotionally sterile). The clean guitar towards the end rules too, it seems like they are trying to throw around some new song structures.

better than the first one, but still really generic and predictable
|
| |
solo is cool but idk, not feeling it. I will never understand why bands like this put such cheesy harsh vocals in music that is so melodic. I love harsh vocals but they sound so out of place in melodic metal.
|
| |
Disagree, as they provide contrast to the instruments. If anything, the singing is out of place.
|
| |
It's alright, but I liked the other one way better tbh. This just seems to... not go anywhere really
|
| |
These guys died for me since their third album...
|
| |
well it sure sounds like insomnium
so there's that
|
| |
I don't know if I like this. It's a good song, but its definitely lacking.
|
| |
Great song, great clip. Can't wait for the album.
|
| |
I dig this. Album should be pretty good.
|
| |
Cool song.
|
| |
I think this is my favorite of the 3 songs out for this album. I enjoyed the cleans, though I agree that the layering was over the top. Solo at the end was great.

Crysis:
I knew someone would say that. People love using the word "contrast" in metal for elements that don't fit the song. I think the harsh vocals bring it down and sound out of place.
|
| |
so you must not like much melodeath then?
|
| |
doesn't like melodeath
listens to insomnium track
doesn't like it

I like the melodies but the vocals throw me off. I liked In Flames and At the Gates (entry level I know) but they were the only two I could really say I was a huge fan of.
scene bands from like early 2000's to 2009 were all on it so I kind of got a bit over it.
|
| |
Crysis I listened to it the hope that I MIGHT like it. I don't cross out all bands that are under that label of melodeath just bc I don't like a few bands. I might find something I like by giving them a listen. Only lame IMN's are like "this is x genre, I won't listen to it bc everything under this genre is crap".
|
| |

No, that's exactly what it is: contrast. That's the entire point of the genre.
|
| |
Whatever their intent, still doesn't sound good to me.
Like I said, everything else was quite enjoyable.
|
| |
I cannot say that I dislike this, but it sounds exactly like every other fucking thing this band has done since what seems like forever. They're clearly a talented bunch; they should just try something completely new.
|
| |
Nothing really new here but I still like this song quite a bit. The solo is especially tasty.
|
| |
boring as fuck
|
| |
great song. seems like a might actually like this album. havent liked anything since ATWW
|
| |
fuck me this rules
|

" it sounds exactly like every other fucking thing this band has done since what seems like forever."
I'm far from an expert on this band but I've been listening to the majority of their work lately and I
strongly disagree with this statement. I can hear several very noticeable differences from album to
album, and the sound that these past few singles have had is different as well. Their take on
melodeath has been established, you can't expect them to do something totally out there and
unexpected, but I think they have shown a healthy amount of variation over the years.
|
| |
Dig it. I feel like this has the potential to be something special but is held back by something I can't quite pick out.
|
| |
"but it sounds exactly like every other fucking thing this band has done since what seems like forever. "
This is just plain wrong
|
| |
I absolutely love Insomnium; they're easily one of my top five favorite bands, if not top three. That said, I'm sick of them releasing incredible albums that sound like they were recorded in a public restroom and mixed by Helen Keller.
|
| |
Nice track ! Looking forward the album .

Yes, what the fuck is up with the production. Across the Dark would have been amazing with clearer production.
|
| |
I try not to let it bother me much but I definitely agree that pretty much all of their albums are poorly produced. This one sounds a lot cleaner in the guitar department which I like, but the drums are so low in the mix it's kind of gross.
|
| |
fantastic song, can't wait for the whole album. I love this style of Melodic Death with Be'lakor and Omnium Gatherum

It sounds more progressive and "detailed", but it's all atop the same old formula.

I would love it for them to throw out their formula and try something different. The one that they're using has run its course (to great results) as far as I'm concerned. I guess we'll see when the new album comes out.
