New Kanye & short film

2012-05-26 by Julianna Reed EMERITUS | 34 Comments
Kanye West has always been identified by his sense of the grandiose, and the latest news surrounding him is no different.

On the 23rd, West premiered his short film titled Cruel Summer at the Cannes Film Festival. The film features Kid Cudi, Pusha T, Big Sean, Aziz Ansari, and Kanye himself, among other widely esteemed actors and musicians. It's essentially an "extended music video", comparable to his 'Runaway' short film. After the short film was premiered, West revealed during his speech that "I'm not the best director in the world or anything like that, but I had an idea. ... I could dream of, one day, this being the way that people watch
movies, in this form where it surrounds you and people want to go back and see it more and more because they missed something else to the left and missed something else to the right, and it felt more like the experience of life."

The short film also features a lot of new music that's supposedly going to be released sometime this year as its own album, also titled Cruel Summer. The music of Cruel Summer was described by those in attendance as bolstering "big complex production, huge beats."

I fucking hate Kanye West. I know his music is good. I really do. But I can't consolidate my hatred for him with his talent and, therefore, I can't listen to his music. I just wish he would shut the fuck up and make music and leave well enough alone.

lol you can't just ignore things people say, it's what makes them who they are. The stupid things he say are what make people hate him. That would be like saying Hitler was a pretty cool guy, you just have to ignore everything he says about wiping out the jewish race..

i mean his art was pretty good too.

I don't think the type of person someone is has anything to do with the quality of their work - there have been many dicks in the world of music that are chiefly recognized for their talents behind the microphone. There's a very big difference between realizing that someone's an asshole, and disregarding their work because of it.

Hell, everybody knows Kanye's an asshole. That shouldn't have an impact on the way we perceive his music, though - in many ways, it makes his music MORE powerful because he acknowledges his egotism through it, like in 'Runaway'. He's a complex guy, and the songs serve as his dissection of sorts.

Plus, sure, Hitler talked about killing people, but he also killed them. That's just a way, way different example, man.

Eh, Kanye's MUSIC is great and able to remove from his assholishness but most of his lyrics, besides being generally crap, fully embody that dick.

as much as i liked wtt, i want kanye to get the fuck back in the studio and make his own SOLO (not g.o.o.d. music, not w/ jay) follow-up to mbdtf. and i want him to produce (or at least be the main producer and have a co-producer or two) for the vast majority of the songs. i want more straight up kanye, not kanye produced by randoms or kanye rapping for one verse a song.

I didn't like runaway at all, but I thought it was a neato idea. Good for kanye.

His music is great, and he is a total douchetard. I can still listen to his music and talk shit about him because I have a legitimate reason.
