Joy Division Disney T-Shirt

2012-01-27 by Divine | 45 Comments
Disney has halted sales of a Mickey Mouse shirt, after its comparisons to Joy Division drew web and public attention. Details of the shirt included a silhouette of the iconic cartoon character's head filled with raised black-and-white lines, which instantly echoed the cover of the post-punk band's 1979 album "Unknown Pleasures".

"As soon as we became aware there could be an issue, we pulled it from our shelves and our online store to review the situation further," a Disney representative said, according to reports.

Former bassist, Peter Hook made light of the situation by replying "I take it as a compliment," he told the Los Angeles Times. "If I had a pound for every time someone bootlegged Joy Division, I'd be as rich as Disney. But it's interesting in a kitsch way. It's this cross between something very adult and this well-known image of childhood."

That really seems like a rip-off of the Unknown Pleasures cover. I mean, it just seems like a piece of shit design when out of the "Joy Division rip-off" context.

There's no "seems" about it (lolpun) - the product description specifically named Joy Division.

And I'm just waiting to see this shirt pop up in Williamsburg, because this is such hipster irony bait.

just wait until they get in trouble for making a shirt with a mickey head on the cover of In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, the hipsters will fight to the death over them

This is the shirt to wear: http://unifclothing.com/shop/eat-a-d-3

Those sneakers were just pictures of a prototype that have been floating around for years but never went into production. New Balance sneakers are ugly, anyway.

Joy Division fans just got all pissy because THEIR BANDS ARE REALLY SERIOUS and Disney can't make shirts based off of their album cover.

Literally no where in the article are fans getting "pissy" and even in the comments people are saying the shirt is cool. Why are you just making stuff up? I mean i know you are a troll but jesus get a life or something
