i wasn't really around so i don't know the full details. probably some bots that wrecked havoc on an outdated site. but yeah it destroyed the forums which is what broke registration and avatars.

a lot of the backend and technical things for the site were in the forums so idk how he did it but he did!

yeah, I guess the whole exclusivity thing was cool in theory for a few mins and it meant bots couldn't infiltrate as easily (although some appeared to take over old dormant accounts lol), but having no new blood for years was ultimately leading to a slow painful death.
