Katatonia To Enter Studio

2009-05-31 by Phantom | 36 Comments
Swedish metallers Katatonia are to enter the stuio next to month to begin recording their eighth studio album, the follow up to 2006's, The Great Cold Distance.

The band's guitarist, Anders Nyström, issued the following update via the band's latest myspace blog:

Quote:
RECORDING FOR ALBUM #8 BEGINS

We've been very busy lately writing and completing the material for our 8th studio album and we're proud to announce that Katatonia will enter the studio this summer, starting in a studio in the south of Sweden with drums courtesy of Daniel on June the 10th. We'll then continue on the remainder of the sessions in a studio here in Stockholm further through july and wrap it up in august.

We'll keep the info short for now as we'll launch a studio diary to give you all the in-depth information and details on the album making incl album/song-titles, audio teasers, album artwork and also our tour plans along the recording process. We can already confirm that initially 13 tracks will be recorded and a selection of 11-12 songs will make it onto the album. We got a few big surprises to reveal and we're confident this material is our most varied, diverse and possibly strongest shit all together on one and the same album. The release date is set for late October on Peaceville.

It could easily not be heavy and still be the best thing they've ever done, to be honest.

I just didn't like how little variation there was on The Great Cold Distance. I would like a few tracks with some heavy sections.

Katatonia doesn't seem much like a "face ownage" band. They're pretty mellow these days.

I'm glad they're finally doing this. I remember them saying before they were in a creative slump, but it seems they've come out of that strong and confident. I couldn't be happier.

A cold album for the cold dark autumn. Even though I think the coming fall will be better than any year I've ever had I am looking forward to watching the leaves fall with them in my ears.

Just tack this on to a stellar 2009. New Primordial, Katatonia, Drudkh, Orphaned Land, Ensiferum, and quite possibly Dark Tranquillity still to go. Hail the old gods...

BMD part 2 would be sweet. I just hope that after three years Katatonia learned how to play with ""dynamics""

I want to see them go in a direction like they did on Unfurl. That would be the best album of this year, hands down.

Will probably be just as heavy as their last album, which is a good thing. I honestly prefer their last 4 albums to their older death/doom stuff.
