Just finished my first listen, and I love it. I'm afraid people will complain that it sounds more like Kayo Dot than motW, but it's good music so I'm satisfied. "Laboratories" will probably please everyone though.

I predict an influx of MOTW reviews coming up shortly.
|
| |
motW
|
| |
I failed to recognize the significance of "the well". I will now and go beat off to the new Xasthur album.
|
| |
maudlin of the Swell...
|
| |
like a piece of mango caressing your throat
|
| |
Damn!!!
|
| |
Hoping this sounds somewhat like Bath so I know if I'll like it....
|
| |
Really good so far.

sadly never listened to this band, getting into them now would be a good idea i guess

No, cuz I'll write a review and instead of everyone else writing one, they'll just talk about how gay mine was.
|
| |
cool concept
|
| |
This isn't metal, but its totally awesome.
|
| |
friggin awesome album so far. and way more close to the last two motW albums than any of Toby Driver's other stuff. not that this is metuhl, but much of it reminds me of the calmer moments of the "old" motW albums.
and the violin is amazing.

No offence, but please don't review this.

Jared Dillon, Executive Producer
|

Haha I didn't even check the list for any sputnik members. I wonder how much he donated.
|
| |
Please don't review this.
Only joking my friend.
|
| |
damn this is great. another year, another spot on the year end list reserved for toby driver
|
| |
OMG OMG MotW MotW OMG FAP FAP FAP
I tried a song from these guys like 4 months ago and it seemed a little too outlandish for me.
I guess I'll download bath today.
|
| |
i really dont get the infatuation everyone has for toby driver stuff. it's definitely above average, if not solid, but i cant find any other attachment.
|
| |
Amazing. Listening to it right now. Didn't even have to grow on me, just instantly loved it.
|
| |
This is incredible.
|
| |
Downloading this as we speak.
|
| |
Don't expect it to sound like Pondering the Wall, or Heaven and Weak. More of a Undine, and Kayo Dot sound to it.
|
| |
FLAC!!! Great album, does not sound exactly like ol' motW nor like Kayo Dot, and it is better than anything Toby has orchestrated since Choirs of the Eye.
|
| |
ha saw that jared dillon credit. wonder if anyone else here donated. feel slightly guilty for not. will listen in a while. thanks to the musicians and $
|
| |
I was totally not expecting this today.
Downloading now, headphones listen later.
I'm giddy.
|
| |
i just came a quart
|
| |
Is there a way to download a good quality of this without torrent or any of that stuff? Just literally like "Save Target As" or something? I buy all the stuff I listen to/never downloaded/don't want that stuff on my computer etc etc. Any ideas?
|
| |
super slow? it took me less than 2 minutes just now
warofalltime, just download the zip file of the mp3s, they want the higher quality ones on torrent because the download bandwidth on those would be huge otherwiseThis Message Edited On 05.14.09

well, for a start, having uTorrent (or whatever) and going to a torrent site doesn't make you criminal, exactly... but there IS a download link on there.
http://www.maudlinofthewell.net/packages/motw-pts-mp3.zip
here ya go.
|
| |
I kind of like this more than their most of their heavier material. Actually, I like this a lot more than most of their heavier material.
The mp3 files sound fine, but the CD-standard files sound a lot better. Still a bit too lazy to go through the process of converting FLAC files as of now, but I'm sure they sound fantasticThis Message Edited On 05.14.09

|
| |
well someone's grouchy
|
| |
More like, "well someone's lame".
|
| |
nah i like motw but everyone overreacting makes me wish i didnt
|
| |
Join the circle jerk!
|
| |
Thanks to everybody who's trying to help for starters! But I'm pretty computer stupid, haha. I don't even have one of those Zip programs to deal with compressed files - so my fault for not making things clear. It's not so much as me not wanting to be a criminal as much as dealing with all these programs, so any other ideas are still welcome!! Thanks in advance.
|
| |
Considering how I just got into maudlin of the Well like yesterday, this is the best coincidence ever.
|
| |
mp3s sound cool, but I'm still going to download the .wav file and burn it on CD as well.
|
| |
Anyone care to add the artwork for this?
|
| |
I think it's broken. All the art for the albums I've uploaded the last couple weeks hasn't worked, and they were all .jpg.

It has to be 150x150 or less.
|
| |
fuck. yes.
|
| |
I made it 140x140 and still no change. And this is definitely better than Mono.
|
| |
I think I shall keep raving about Mono while raving about this album thank you very much!
|
| |
I'm not sure if I like this more than the new Mono or not, this isn't quite as powerful but it is an easier listen.
Mono, Gwynbleidd, and now motW are definitely at the top of my 09 list so far.
|
| |
man, everytime I go from Kayo Dot to motW, I really wish Mia was playing violin. Now what is the very first thing I hear on this album? Violin ftw. I'm loving this.
|
| |
there's only one soundoff saying it's not metal enough
i'm surprised
|
| |
Give it time.
|
| |
one day is enough for sputnik metalheads
|
| |
this is the 2nd best thing that Driver has ever done. Right beyond Dowsing Anemone.
|
| |
was going to post this earlier but my internet was being gay
|
| |
yeah, so Rose Quartz Tuyning to Glass is one of the most beautiful things they've done.
|
| |
this is the 2nd best thing that Driver has ever done. Right beyond Dowsing Anemone.
Dowsing Anenome is overratedddd.
Bath > Choirs of the Eye > This > Leaving Your Body Map ≥ My Fruit Psychobells > all other Toby Driver stuff
|
| |
It's not overrated, most people think Choirs of the Eye is better. And we'll have to agree to seriously disagree about the order.
|
| |
I'm finding it really hard to get into Kayo Dot, however, bath and leaving your body map instantly appealed to me.
New album is hard for me to get into.
|
| |
in my opinion, choirs is the ultimate in toby driver material. It's a perfect blend of what makes both kayo dot and maudlin great. This is pretty great too though, gonna have to give it a couple more listens before I decide on a rating
|
| |
anyone know if maudlin is gonna release a hard copy of these any time soon?
|
| |
Probably not. This album funded by fans so that they could give it away for free. It would eliminate the point to release.
However, the torrent files are cd-quality files, so just burn those to a disc, print the art, and stick it in a case and you have your own hard copy!
|
| |
yeah, but a decent amount of people would still be willing to shell out money (and it could just be enough to print/distribute) for vinyls. it's not as if a vinyl would be the only way for people to obtain the album.
|
| |
A vinyl release would be pretty cool. But I think TD and Matsumiya are probably preoccupied with preparing the new Kayo Dot.
|
| |
this will get all those kids raving about Mono's album to shut up.
ya stupid kids raving about a masterpiece.
But I really want to get this although I couldn't really get into any of their other material.
|
| |
This was pretty boring. Although I'm sure it will grow on me.
|
| |
I don't find it boring at the slightest. Very slow most of the time, but nonetheless, amazing. If you aren't a frequent KayoDot listener then I can see how it might need some time to get a feel for it
|
| |
in my opinion, choirs is the ultimate in toby driver material.
this. + it's pretty much the ultimate in music, all music.
just had to donate a little, new album is too cool to be true, I'd really be surprised if the new Kayo Dot album could live up to this.
|
| |
very excited to here this. and yeah, Choirs > everything.
|
| |
Dowsing Anenome is overratedddd.
no, it's not. not many people even rate dowsing very well compared to toby's other works.
|
| |
Can I review this? has somebody already called it? Day off work and I feel like reviewing... it's either this or Murder Ballads.
|
| |
i think dfelon has staff dibs, but there's no reason why you can't review it too.
|
| |
alright then... and away I review!
|
| |
Shit is fantastic.
|
| |
This is freakin' awesome.
|
| |
I need to download this
