Rolling Stones lyrics:
Well, you've got your diamonds and you've got your pretty clothes/And the chauffeur drives your car/You let everybody know/But don't play with me, 'cause you're playing with fire
Lil Wayne lyrics:
So you got so many diamonds/You wear all the finest clothes/And your grill is shining/As you're driving down the street of gold/But you can't blame me if I set dis stage on fire
That's fairly close. I think they've got a case.This Message Edited On 07.28.08

The Rolling Stones might look misogynistic? o rly?
|
| |
wow...those lyrics are pretty close.
|
| |
i don't know which case is funnier. Lil' Wayne VS. The Rolling Stones, or, 50 Cent vs. Taco Bell.
|
| |
Yea but wasen't it thirty something years ago that the stones just started to seem "explicit, sexist and offensive". Seems like a load of bullshit to me. tbh i'd be pretty honored if a my music was still relevant to a younger hipper audience that many years later. Then again i'n the rolling stones and I'm not filthy stinking rich like them so....

ahh, come on Weezy
|
| |
since when is that copyright infringement?
artists twist each others material all the time
|
| |
I wonder if Lil Wayne even knew about the copyright infringement. Bet some dude just came to him with the beat.
Don't mess with the Rolling Stones though, they're big on copyright infringement.
It's a stupid suit anyways, the songs aren't even similar. I'm no lawyer but I think Wayne could win this anyways. This Message Edited On 07.28.08This Message Edited On 07.28.08

|

|
| |
I wish people would stop suing each other...
...whatever happened to fist fights?
|
| |
Hmmm... The lyrics are very close, but as has been said, Rolling Stones weren't exactly 'clean' or 'innocent' thirty years ago. I think it's just a case of 'We never said you could use that', really.

But copyright has gone too far. Inspiration = royalties. Same chord progression = royalties. Slightest resemblance possible = royalties. Sounds very slightly like Smoke On The Water = BIG royalties.
|

he's wearing his shirt wrong
|
| |
eh shit happens. Weezy's been through worse.
|
| |
i think both of them are signed to universal as the stones recently left emi for universal ....and also bought their back catalog
|
| |
WOAAHHH PLAYBOIII
|
| |
Lil Wayne is stupid, but copyright infringement in music is really iffy in my mind. I somehow doubt any Rolling Stones fans heard the song and decided "I'm going to stop listening to the Stones and listen to bad rap instead."
This is really just another case of music and business getting too mixed up. The Stones are too busy swimming in drugs and cash to personally care about anything Lil Wayne does, I'd bet. It's just the publishing company looking for a quick buck.
If I were the judge, I would throw this out simply based on the assertion that the Stones are somehow a model of politeness.

the rolling stones are a bunch of prima donnas and lil wayne shot himself... nuf said

They shouldn't be allowed to sue him because he didn't use their EXACT words. That's not fair. So what if he made a reference to them? SO WHAT? They just want the guy's money, that's all!! They should be glad somebody wants to make a reference to them. Old wrinked-ass raisan-faced men.
